Are all starters the same?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but my question is are all the starters from 46G3T engines the same? I need a new one as mine is dying on me. Engine is a 6-bolt 4G63T from a Galant VR4 and I'm wondering if I can snag the starter from a 2G DSM...Thanks!

The starter should be compatible as long as it is from a 2.0 liter Turbo car with a Manual Transmission, not sure if the 2.0 non-turbo starters were the same... If it has a different engine size or and automatic transmission, it will most likely have a different starter.

I used a starter off my old 4G37 on my 6-bolt. It eventually popped the fusible link and emitted a puff of smoke from under the hood. It worked fine for about 3 years that way.

The 4g37 and 4g63 starters are very similar externally, but internally they have some differences. Here is some information from BBB Industries (makes starter for both engines so I'll use their specs to compare),. Notice the power rating is higher for the 40 model, which is for 4g63. The rotating assembly is more stressful. It's not that you can't use a 4g37 starter on a 4g63, but that it will become tired much sooner as the demands are different.
