Are 1990 Throttle Bodies the same as 1991

As the topic says...i'm trying to find out if the throttle body from a '90 Talon TSi AWD is the same as the '91.

I'm guessing they are but since there are so many other differences from '90 to '91 i'd like to make sure.

Yes they are the same. :thumb:

So many diiferances from 90-91?

Not sure which one it is. Its off a friends parts car so i'll have to ask him.

Thanks for the link blkwidow.

So do you know if all '90's have the two vac lines or is right that the later 1990 models had the 4 lines. I don't have the tb in front of me. Friend has it in his garage somewhere and he can't remember what it looks like.

Thanks for the help.

After June 1990 the TBs have 4 vaccum ports on the top, like it shows in the bottom link that Jim (Auto_RS T) provided. Before June of 90 they have 2 vaccum ports on top, and 2 on the side where the TPS for 91-94s is.

I agree about replacing the seals before installation.

Really, the 90 TB is a whole different animal than the laters. The TB itself is wider and the lower half is also different. Obviously they changed the port locations (vac lines) and the harness and connectors have changed to boot.

The early 90 TB will not work on your 91 without modifcations. It would be your best bet to find a newer TB if this other TB you have found is an ealry style. (IMO)

It has the 4 vac lines on top so i guess i should work...i think the FIAV in my TB is bad so want to swap it out to see.

I can get another one off a '91 if this one doesn't work either.

As an FYI, elimination of the FAIV is a very easy and cheap (or free) mod. The FAIV's only purpose in life is to boost your RPMs a bit on a cold starts, though at risk is vacume leaks, ruptured water lines (happend to me) from/to the TB and heat transfer from said water lines to the TB.

Your ISC will still be able to regulate idle speed, unless of course you want to get rid of that too ;) :dsm:

If neither of the throttle bodies work i may block off the FIAV. My only concern is that i live in Central NY and it gets cold here. There will be a lot of cold starts this winter and i wasn't sure how badly it would effect start-up.

Also, if you know of any how-to's on blocking it off please let me know. The one on Vfaq doesn't open up.

That sounds more promising to me. I see on the Slowboy link there is a FIAV blockoff plate and a FIAV bypass plate. Which would i need and why would you want to do one over the other?

Nevermind. All i had to do was click on the pic and it tells me the difference.

SBRs block off plate is for if you have removed the ISC, and their by-pass plate is for if you are retaining the ISC.
