Looking for a proven EBC on the market? What do you guys using the Apexi unit think of it? What do you guys running another electronic units have to say?

I like the Profec b type s.....nothing fancy and easy to use.

I agree somewhat as I have the regual Profec B not the type S. Super nice and very easy to use.

I have heard that while the AVCR has a ton of options it is complicated to use.

I've had an AVCR in my previous Eclipse (and soon to be installed).

I've worked with the first and second gen Profec units and have nothing but good things to say about them. Easy to setup and configure and both held boost with minmal spiking (16g).

With that said, the AVCR is a blessing or your worst nightmare depending on how much effort you want to put into learning the system. Took me months to get things figured out, but once you understand how all the variables add up its a sweet unit, bar none. I was running your 50 trim equivalant and could hit 24 psi with maybe a +1 psi spike. Because you are given more control the ability to effectivly tune the wastegate to the behavior of the motor and turbo was uncanny. This was also done on an internal gated turbo.

I guess to add to the mix I'm currently am running a MBC and have phenominal results with that as well. If your looking for a budget solution, a proven MBC will do you justice as well.

My freind is running the apex unit in his car, he will hold 26psi at redline he is droping to 25!! Its awsome and has great boost control.

But its really hard to use, if you dont know what your doing your car will run like shit. It took him a bit to fig it out.

He used to hate it but after he got to know everything about it and how to use it, he loves it. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks a lot guys. Everyone seems to say very good things about the Greddy unit so i think im going to research that a bit. Thanks a lot fellas.

If anyone knows, whats makes the AVCR difficult to use?

I run an AVCR, and while it is an amazing tool, it is difficult to use and can take some tweaking and learning to get your car set up how you want it to act. For the price, I would just get a mbc and call it a day, unless you want limitless control over every aspect of your boost.

i'll take a shot in explaining it...disclaimer I haven't used my AVCR in over 2 years

What makes it difficult is the method of setting the threshold at which the solenoid opens to let the presure reach the wastegate. It is set at RPM intervals therefore allowing you to control the opening of the wastegate to a more finite point.

On the Profec, you set the boost, adjust the gain, and let the fuzzy logic figure the rest out.

So hows this differ? Profec sees the boost reaching set threshold and if it approaches that point it begins to compensate by opening the wastegate. This is a post active operation where the adjustments are taking place after boost is recognized. Works on the same principle as a MBC, just faster.

On the AVCR (when set in manual - believe there is a auto mode as well) you are able to anticipate where the spike may occur and have the solenoid open prior to that point via set RPM points. It also works in the top end where the wastegate is open and you start loosing boost up at the top end. You can have the wastegate actually begin close in the upper RPMS to squeak out every last psi of boost.

Think of the wastegate as a variable resistor. at 0 PSI its full closed and at say 10 psi full open. In between it is partially open letting 'x' amount of exhaust gas to bypass the turbime thus slowing the boost.

To complicate things more there is a relationship to where the full boost is onset and where the spike may occur. Therefore its like trying to find a balance point where the boost builds at the proper RPM, but does not spike.

That's it in a nutshell, I'll write a more proper how to once I get mine reinstalled.
