Anything else [to work on while changing lifters]?

So my nippon racing lifters are suppose to ship tomorrow from s. california, so should arrive in 7-10 buisness days. Anyways while i'm changing the lifters anything else you think i should do while the valve cover is off. I figured I'd clean the heck out of the cover and maybe paint it if i have the time and money. Figured I would get the valve cover breather as well. Any other quick suggestions?

Get better springs and retainers, but not really needed until you get cams. Also don't get a breather for the valve cover. Instead get an oil catch can from RRE so the oil doesn't mess up your engine bay.

now that i think about it do i really need a breather if i recentally changed the PCV valve to prevent oil blow by in the intake? Also you say springs and retainers arent necessary till you get aftermarket cams? thnx

I can't answer your first question because I used to have a breather on and now I have an oil catch can (which works great and looks cool). I never changed the PCV valve. For your second question if your building up your stock head, then do change the springs and retainers and cams, etc. If you werent planning on it then its not necessary unless your running big numbers.

yea i'm not planning on doing that yet, later down the road..also this is my first DSM, and on our cars do you have to take out the cams to replace the lifters?
