I would go by the directions of the tranny builder themself. If it is a Shep tranny you can already see he doesn't recommend that mix but I can't speak for others. I will however say that i will take what he says over anyother "specialist" out there.

This is taken from a thread were the person was having problem shifting his new Shep tranny.

I'm running an 80-90 synthetic with a mix of shock-proof according to 3 DSM places that are pretty good and it's what they run.

Should I just try something different like a SyncroShift (not Syncromesh)?

We have NEVER recomended mixing 80/90 gear oil with anything else.

John, what is the difference between mixing Shockproof with BG Syncroshift and mixing 80-90 gear fluid with Syncroshift or Shockproof?

Does it not provide the neccesary lubrication or protection that the Shockproof/Syncroshift mix does?

Would you reccomend mixing the BG fluid with Shockproof or Pennzoil Syncromesh with Shockproof?

To clear some things up, I was NOT running an 80-90, it was a 75-90 Mobil 1 Synthetic gear oil. I mixed 2 bottles of the 75-90 and 1 bottle of the Shock Proof and then split them up between my trans and transfer case.

Mobil 1 Syn in our trans is a major NO NO

Jon from TRE took my trans a part and called me out on it!!! :D
It took my bearings out of my stock trans in about 10 to 15K!!!!

Syncromesh (spelling?) is the only thing I use and i have over 30K on the TRE rebuild and it still great. (many oil changes!)

The BG fluid or the Pennzoil to let the car shift smooth and easy the shockproof help not to break gears and teeth, if you put it all pure it would help more not to break stuff but in cold days the gear might not shift that easy, that's why you should mix it with pennzoil or BG actually I'm going for SBR mix, I have BG oil and getting redline oil from Mr-JS in few days!

Are you sure that it “took out” your bearings and not your synchros? Mobil 1 is a great gear oil when it comes to protecting bearings and gears. But it lacks friction modifiers, found Synchroshift and other "well shifting lubricants", which is why it is bad for shifting and I can see how it can eventually damage your synchros. It is highly unlikely that it would damage your bearings.

I have been using straight BG Synchroshift for many years without any problems! IMHO, you do more damage to your tranny by missing gearshifts than by wearing out your tranny with oils that are considered "too thin".

Ether way, I haven't yet found one oil (or mix of oils) that made everybody happy.

What about ATF? What do you guys recommend for Auto Tranny Fluid

The factory fluid or B&M trich shift.

ATF actually works OK in a 5sp (shifting wise) and it might be ok for flushing or for testing your tranny for leaks (if you tranny leaks, it is much better to loose $1/quart fluid, rather than $15/quart fluid), but stay away from prolong or high load use with ATF!

EDIT: Are you talking about auto or 5sp tranny? For auto tranny, start another thread in an appropriate forum!

I would be worried about breaking gears more than missing shifts, I've used BG but it doesn't support any safty to my gear teeth, I broke HD 2nd gear twice,HD 3rd gear for once and OEM 3rd gear for once, the problem once you break the 3rd or 4th gear you break the other input or intermediat shaft which are connected to them and this costs you so much.

I don't care about how smooth my shifts would be as much as protection for my gears so I think the only way I have is pure REDLINE HEADY DUTY ANTI SHOCK PROOF, I might mix it with BG because I have alot and I don't want to loose them but I started to fear BG after breaking some gears but I know the most problem is because I'm ####ing FWD and my tranny is weak:)

By the way I noticed that the locks in my both gears which have steel fork has bad locks I need new lock for my fork and we never missed a shifts for now and we really treat the car like baby and never power shift with MR-JS tranny because I don't want to break anything, it takes so long time to get stuff from US and for rebuild and this will cause me too loose getting into race

Yeah I know what you are saying but the bearings were toast. It was howling!
And it was the stock trans and I only had a 16G ....and not making much power at the time.

Was this tranny ever apart? Even for something as simple as swapping/fixing center diff? If so, it could have been re-assembled with improper bearing pre-load if someone used wrong spacers, or just left them out.

Just a heads-up for daily drivers lurking about.

For your daily driven DSM, there is a thread that recommends reversing this. One quart Redline, and two quarts BG Syncro Shift II. That's the advice I followed. It worked great for my DD.

From SBR:

"We at SBR can only reccomend this mixture for transmissions running "weekend duty" because we have never put it in a daily driver to test it out. If your synchro's already grind, this magic mixture will helf (sic) but we cannot promise perfect results."

100% redline MT90 is good oil also. It is a little thicker than the syncromesh or MTL.
Redline advertises it as a 75w90 for manual tranys . When poored it looks real thin like a 10/30 synthetic oil. I have noticed faster shifts with this fluid but is notchy when heated but I know the protection is still there.
