Anyone installed the Walbro 450 fuel pump with the big sock?

I don't know why I can't seem to figure this out but I'm having a huge issue trying to get this thing installed. First off, I tried reusing my old o ring and it doesn't want to fit. Ended up cracking it.

Secondly I was advised not to solder or heat shrink but to just use the spade connectors? Does this look safe?

The main issue I'm having is getting it secured to the sending unit and using the big sock. I've read every install I possibly could on this site and cannot seem to get it. I read that using the small sock off my old pump is a bad idea. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

I was toying with it a bit last night and kind of got it to fit. Drilled out the little bracket that basically sandwiches it tight but the pump seems to be crooked. I don't see anyway to make it sit straight.
