Anyone have experience with +25 or lower offsets on a 1g?

Low offsets = wheels sticking out. Yes, I know it isn't safe. Yes, I know it will rub. Yes, I know it ruins brakes & wheel bearings. I know it can be done. European car guys do it all the time...I've seen 16"x12" wheels on an '87 Jetta. Those same wheels on a 98 GTI. I know it requires pulling, cutting, and modification, but this is a much smaller scale.

Ok, does anyone have any pics of sick offsets on 1g's? I want to know if it's been done, how the car specifically responded, and if you think it sucks or not. DSMs have deep wheelwells and I know VWs don't, so why not go for it, right? I was specifically looking at a set of 5Zigen FN01RC's, 17"x8.5", 25mm or lower offset. Makes the wheels look entirely different when the spokes set inward. Positive or negative input, hit me with it.

Deep wheelwells on a 1G? WTF Could you please elaborate?

I have a set of FN01R-C's on my 1G AWD with a +35 offset and I think the look's just perfect. The spokes don't jut out from the lip, and the rims aren't "sunken" into the fenderwells. They actually sit flush with the fender lip, which is the proper look for an AWD car, IMHO.

Maybe I should have thought about that before I said that...2gs have fairly large gaping holes. 1gs have a little more to work with than the 87 Jetta...is what I meant.

I dunno if you have seen the FN01RC's in such an offset, but...

I dunno...I just like the way they look like that. I saw a pic of a European 1g, had very wide wheels on it and looked good. But I just wanted to know if that would have an adverse on the rear axles or if the rear itself would be aching from it (on an AWD car)

Yes, I've seen FN's in such an offset (I watch the local drift events ... Still think it's an exhibition sport). Do you have any pics of this euro-spec 1G?

Running a +35 on my car, I'm starting to hear my wheel bearings complain a little more, which means I'll be busy this winter ... Of course, they're 124xxx miles old, so they're probably due for replacement anyway, but back on topic, I don't think you can run a low offset wheel like that on a 1G AWD without serious modification.

Maybe I should try my dad's M Roadster rims on my car and see what happens.

Haha...you're probably kidding about the M wheels but I'd do it. I dunno, after owning a VW my styles have changed...I just want to change up the flow a little bit. Euro styling is so off the way, it's really crazy sometimes. Maybe I'll run a set off BBS RS's on it...hmm...

, thats what my car looks like with 245's and 38 offset. The damn tires are millimeters from the inner knuckles too.


I'll post pics once I lower the car cause right now she looks freakish with 18's and stock ride height

That looks like it was done in Japan ... Gotta love that homeland-grown style. Those look like SSR Formula Meshes if I'm not mistaken. I hope that thing's FR, but nonetheless, hott ...
