Anyone have any experience with this exhaust manifold? (DSMparts GT)

Wondering if it's as good as they claim (better than ported 2g or EVO3)?

http://www.dsmparts.com/customer/product.php?productid=620&cat=&page=

They brag of the port diameter. . . when exhaust port diameter yields 0 to minimal gain for anything less than a t3 stage3 turbine (550whp or less).

This is a non-divided turbine housing exhaust manifold. Thus, port length is paramount. And equal port lengths are neccesary to have any exhaust manifold swap worthwhile for a performance upgrade.

A 2g/evo3 exhaust mani has the same general exhaust path shape and divides the cylinder flow for each runner at the same length from the exhaust port. They are quite crack-resistant and are FAR less expensive. They have been proven to go in the 10s.

I appreciate the response but it's kind of a vague answer .

So was your question. It depends on your horsepower goal. You left that to speculation.

I will quote myself to give you as concise an answer as possible:
. . .Thus, port length is paramount. And equal port lengths are neccesary to have any exhaust manifold swap worthwhile for a performance upgrade.

I told you what performs better than what you have and why. Does the manifold in question fit that criteria?

I was helping you see why a much more affordable 2g exhaust manifold is just fine for 99% of us (to reword: will perform equally well). I hope this can save you some money.

just give a simple answer for a simple question...

The GT manifold is ok, and for the price its hard to beat. especially if your manifold is cracked. i think turbochargers.com sells the manifold for 145.00 a lil bit cheaper. the evo3 is just as good, but i dont think you will ever notice a performance difference either way.

i believe it includes hardware/gaskets at that price as well. so for that price i say go for it if you need one.

non-divided turbine housing exhaust manifold

in the picture it appears to divide more in the center like a 1g/2g/evo3 manifold, so im not sure if that statement is entirely true.

FAR less expensive

since when is an Evo3 manifold cheaper than a GT manifold?

i personally run the turbochargers.com "GT" manifold... and have nothin but good things to say about it... it was cheap, came with all the hardware, helped spool my turbo a little bit quicker, and is still holding strong after about 7,000 miles.. i would recomend this manifold to anyone looking to upgrade there 1g or 2g mani.. :thumb:

ah you're right.... I should've mentioned my intentions. I'm building my car for 13s initially, then the possibility of 12s. But I intend to keep the stock 14b. I was only considering it because it seems 2G manifolds can crack etc. I figured 150$ for a new manifold isn't bad, and if it's better than the EVO why not... BTW the EVO is not significantly cheaper, lowest i've seen is like $130 new...

I guess one of my questions should be what is the inlet diameter on an unported 14b?

An evo3 exhaust manifold is not "thicker" than a 2g exhaust manifold from my comparison (my brothers 2g vs. my evo3). It has the same shape until you reach the turbo inlet port. So the evo3 cracks as easily as a 2g, IMHO. Unless the manifold is made of the same higher nickle content turbine housing found on the evo3 turbo. . .

A 14b ported to match a 2g exhaust manifold is a great, inexpensive solution. The cracking is quite a bit more rare than the 1g manifolds. And the frequency does not warrent buying a manifold w/ the same performance at twice the cost.

I have ordered the GT manifold and It looked good when it came. Shipping was fast and it came with all the hardware, except the two larger nuts were too big so I reused stock.
The four bolts that came with it were meant as the turbo bolts but are the wrong pitch.
The manifold came coated or painted. I would recommend this manifold for the PRICE, DURABILITY (as it is supposed to be made with higher nickel content), and PERFORMANCE as it is suuposed to be a ported evo 3 manifold which fits my new FP 18tdosl2 turbo perfectly. I can not say how the performance will be affected since the turbo goes on at the same time. And turbochargers sells it for 145$ plus like 20$ for shipping. :thumb:

well supposedly they are built with better iron.. But really the main reason is any used OEM manifold is gonna have many heat cycles etc. New one has 0...

But seeing how they're dirt cheap and plentiful I guess i'll give a 2g a try..
