Anyone have 2nd gen MAF in a 1st gen? Worth it?

I am getting a reprogrammed ECU soon and after seeing the option for copensation of alternative MAFs it makes me wonder if it is worth it to put a 2nd gen maf in my 91 TSI. I now have a homedepot intake and a K&N on a hacked can. If i choose to switch to the 2nd gen maf I will need to also buy a new high performance pipe and filter. This stuff costs a lot and i already have an upgraded intake and I want to know if there will be enough of a difference to switch.
Anyone done the switch and have any comments?

I also would have the options to compensate for a 1st gen maf with the lower honeycomb removed, or a 2nd gen maf with no side or lower honey comb.

maybe those would yield greater gains

The 2G MAS is a nice upgrade for the 1G (what I run).
Though if I was in the market now would opt for the MAFT and 3" MAS for ~$100 more as it is a simple plug in deal and offers additional tuning features. BTW.. it's also an option on dsmchips custom EPROM as well

do you mean like the "blow-thru" style intake? Does that help HP? All this intkae stuff seems like just to get better blow offs. Im trying to get the best bang for my buck HP wise.

I was going to get the maft but I got a deal on a 2g mas ($50 shipped with plug) and it was well worth the $. Seems that throttle responce was slightly better but pulled better in high rpm.

Well, I had a 2nd gen MAS on my car and I moved on to the MAf-t set up....I liked the 2nd gen mas but had it hacked (Lower and side honeycombs) so I had to compensate for it a little more than normal with my afc. The only reason why I moved to the MAF-T setup is because I got a SBR interocoler and figured why not get the charge pipe configered for it while I could. I have the K&N, pipe (hard 2inch homemade), 2nd gen mas and plug for sale! my email is [email protected] my AIM is icedearth15, or PM me. I used it for a couple months and got it off of a buddy who ran a 12.9 with it (not that that matters for anything....just that it works). I can provide as many pictures of it as you want....let me know.

MAF-Translator, it translates between the GM "hot-wire" style sensor which is very free flowing, to our karmen vortex style sensor which is inherently a flow inhibiting design.

2g maf is well worth it. Trust me.
