Any tricks on getting the pilot bushing out of the crank? I installed the kiggly plate on backwards, thus the bushing getting stuck in the crank. I tryed to get it out and now its all chewed up from screw drivers and hammer and anything I could find. I now have another kiggly bushing NEW, but need to get the old one out. Is there any type of lub I could use or special tech I need.

you can keep packing grease into the bushing so its behind it in the crank, then find a rod or something that fits in the bushing snugly an start hitting it with a hammer. the pressure being put on the grease will push the bushing out.

ok yeah thats what kiggly racing told me to do also. I will do so tomorrow and keep everyone posted

Some parts stores have a pilot bushing puller small enough to fit in there.
Also the grease(hydraulic) method works for some

When I swapped my last dsm to 5spd, my bushing was so seized that the above didn't work.
I wound up having to make several cuts in it with a dremel til it finally collapsed

I've heard wet toilet paper works too with the above mentality. Crazy DSM ppl.

Ok NOTHING is working. I packed teh shit out of it with grease and stuck something in it tight, and wacked it with hammer and nothing. I then tryed to spray the crap out of it with industrial lube from work, and nothing. I then tryed to pry it with a screw driver, and the thing snapped my screw driver, and i busted my knuckles on the block.

Can I put heat to it and it come out that way?

heat causes expansion. Have you thought about a can of compressed air? Hold it upside down and spray the bushing this should get it real cold. Since it is smaller than what it is mounted in, it should shrink first, might allow it to come out.

dry ice works miracles man. it will shrink the hell out of it an you should be able to get it out.

So your saying the condense air cans, I buy for my computer cleaning will work?

KEEP IN MIND

This is the ONLY and I say ONLY thing from keeping me from dropping my motor in. It is very frustrating, over a bushing.

Yes, turn the can upside down and spray the bushing. It will freeze it and it will compress. Dry Ice will get it colder, but compressed air is easier to get.

Ok so I went to advance and bought the Pilot bushing removal tool for $33. Even that isnt working on this darn thing. Between my frustration and Mosquitoes I'm pissed

Have you tried the compressed air? It made installing u-joints in my old drive-shaft real easy last summer. I forgot to put them in the freezer, so they were really hard to put the caps in. I sprayed them down with the compressed air, they slid right in. It works.

Holy Crap!!! That luck sucks!! It looks like it is in there crooked. A dremmel tool is much cheaper than taking a loss on the car. Less than 50 bucks and you can cut it out. If you had a compressor and grinder you could cut it out that way, but a dremmel should cut enough into it so a hammer could break it apart.

not crooked, but smashed in one side with the hammer. I have had this car since 1st week of feb and drove it 12 miles. It has been through 3 motors, one which was CW real bad. Im just so sick of looking at this thing.

Easy wet paper towels and a pipe that fits into the bushing. Put the paper towels in the center and get a big hammer and keep hammering paper towels into the center until it pops out. Be prepapred with some ice for the shoulder if yours is as stubborn as the first one I did.

I remember you from the Mitsubishi Forums. You have had the worst luck with these cars. If you were close, I would bring my compressor and air-hammer and let it kill that bushing so it could be removed. But you are no where near me in Indy.

allright now im jumping in on it. look at it like this you get to play as a plumber for a few min.

get a braker bar and put it on the crank pully nut and have someone stand on it. make shure you find the fattest person arround that is willing to help. LOL. get a big azz pipe wrench. i mean huge or something that has jaws big enough to fit arround the bushing with a long handle or you can use a pipe and slip it over the handle. keep twisting to free it up and you should be able to easly get it from there. dont use heat because it will only expand like everyone is saying and it will damage the rear seal right arround the crank.

pipe wrenches were designed to grip a flat surface of a pipe to force it to turn.

if anyone has any better ideas other than stuff he allready tryed then please comment.
