After weeks of looking for a new dsm. I think I found the winner. A white 1995 awd tsi.
Completely stock. I am giving him some cash and a sound system for it. Needs new rotors and new pads. So I might just buy some ebay slotted rotors for now.
Any thoughts on ebay slotted rotors?

who is the vendor????

i may have a set.. mine have 305 miles but i bought a VR-4 kit im putting on it.. so if you are interested let meknow

Why does every one say ebay, like ebay make's the part's, or if brodix make's a cheaper line just for ebay I bought a set for a 240sx I had and would do it again I just would'nt buy joe shmoo's off ebay. No offence to any joe shmoo's

I have a set of d/s rotors on my car that I picked up off of ebay. Keep in mind that the machining work is relatively hard to screw up so the important part is that the seller uses good blanks. The seller that I purchased from was more expensive than most of the others (but about the same price as most local prices) and claimed to use brembo blanks. After two years I couldn't be happier and I have beat the shit out of my brakes (street driving no track time). Also keep in mind that to keep cost down I used standard rotors on the back and they are sufficient that I can lock all the tires up. The better your brakes on the front the less you need in the back.

I picked up some cross drilled ones off ebay and they horribly warped after about 8 months. I just went with some 3 yr warranty cross drilled and slotted baer rotors from autozone and have no complaints about them.

Ebay rotors and pads ftw.. i will second reading this thread.

got a great price on them with live cashback, you will see my posts in the thread..

still running them today, and they have been very good, no noticible problems. stopping has improved from stock. the brand of the pads are not generic, they are a brand that a lot of auto shops use as OE replacements. went to a few shops and saw boxes of pads with that centric brand on it, also rotors. i wont hesitate to recommend it..

Well, some of the 95's came with vented rear disks. Hard to come-by but not unheard of. You should check to see if maybe your one of those lucky few. Make sure of what you have and then buy accordingly. :thumb:

i have 2 95 gsxs, both have eeproms, but yes 1 has stock rear vented. they are supposedly both "early" build 95s.. so who knows how they are distinguished. but will it really matter when you are replacing them? I plan on getting the same package for my other gsx with stock rear vented sooner or later..

stay away from them. If you are tame and dont brake hard often then maybe but you will get what you pay for. Often the rotors are cast blanks that have the slots machined in them, with the cheaper rotors the machining isnt done well making the slots major stress risers and areas for warpage and cracks. Also, the slots are areas of less material so when the rotors heat up and cool there is alot of stress due to the expansion and contraction, with the diff amount of material it often results in the above mentioned cracks warpage. In a rotor that is more properly machined and cast out of higher quality metal it will be much less likely to have problems.

If you just need some cheap rotors get ones without slots, the cheap slotted ones will not enhance your performance, they will make it worse than regular rotors once they are warped. Just my 2 cents and all of this is from experience and seeing it happen on other cars.

I run some cross drilled rotors I got off ebay, have used them for about 1.5 years with no problems. Have done several passes at the strip and have done an autox with them with no problems warping.

they usually dont warp as much but can crack as most cheaper rotors simply have holes drilled in them without considering any heat stresses that happen during the drilling process and often these rotors arent heat or cryo treated to deal with these drilling processes. The rotors dont have to be treated for drilling but then extensive FEA stress analysis work needs to be done on them to see where and what types of shapes that are drilled into the rotor will do to the rotor.
Ive seen on a several porsche race cars in addition to an FSAE car Ive worked on, cracking that propagated from the holes.

Most of the cheap stuff online is all about the looks. Unless you race or drive very hard and buy legit stuff you wont even notice any benefits. Getting a set of braided lines, better brake fluid that is changed regularly and performace pads will benefit anyone more than a set of cheap rotors.

Im only so adamant about this as i have gone through the process of buying and trying these cheaper rotors in autoX and just in ratting around with high speed runs only to see them warp and work worse than a quality set of rotors and pads.

in the end if you are going to rat around remember that brakes along with steering and tires are the most important safety systems on you car that if they go wrong or perform subpar at the wrong time you could be in for some trouble.
