I just purchased this Evo pistons down slowboys, they are used but look in good shape plus I got a good deal. I believe they either came off the Evo 8 or 9. My question is if there are any 2Gs out there with these piston? If your one of them please tell me if your pleased with them or if they are not worth it. Im in the process of rebuilding my motor and im just curious since im still wating for my stuff to be done at slowboys. here is a pic of the pistons.

tried that already and i shouldn't have to force it in. if it does go it theres not enough piston to wall clearance and basically the piston will be stuck. LOL!
maybe i should use a ridge reamer to open up the top of the cylinder wall?
i really don't know whats up with my block?

Any updates from you guys that used the evo 8 or evo 9 pistons/rods? How are they performing? I will be using evo 8 pistons and rods in my build. Just bought them.

I am currently working on a friend's car, he used evo 8 pistons/rods on his 97 GST. We should have it done by this friday, so I will try and take a video of it when its running and do some pulls with it so you get an idea. I no longer have my 7bolt with evo 9 pistons since Im currently building a 6bolt.:shhh:

Can you use 2g stock 7 bolt rings on evo 9 pistons? I ordered a set of pistons and rods and found a set of rings for cheap but they are for a 2g, not an evo.

You have to you the correct rings 2g rings wont work and the evo 8 & 9 rings are different. You need evo 9 rings and new oem rings are about $200

That's a valid question. From my understanding stock dsm and evo pistons have an offset wristpin.

i read that the pins are offset

I believe you can use the evo 8/9's pistons with out any modification for a 2G... but I wouldn't bet the farm on my advice with this.

which rods do you need

Yea I have evo 9 pistons and evo 9 rods they will fir fine. I went with these since I couldnt find any 1g rods at the time. They arent bad. They are better then the stock 2g rods for sure though. I feel a lot safer with these. But im kind of scared that when I get it tuned something will happen LOL. Get 1g rods with 2g pistons. Id feel better with that. I want to be as close as possible to 350hp. Just need to get my oil leaks fixed and then get new 3g lifters, springs and retainers. Then the 272 cams :D im pretty sure my rods van hamdle that though.

I believe that someone building a motor on a budget that this is a great option.

I bought a 95 gst that had a bent rod from being hydrolocked. So..I did some searching and ended up picking up a set of Evo 8 pistons/rods for $50. Finding them for that price allowed me to use more money for my fuel setup and other items on my rebuild.

thanks!

is the almost 2mm lower Evo pistons going to affect anything, aside from the valve clearance?

squish/quench effects?

So from reading this entire thread I've taken away that i should install the evo 8 internals pointing towards the bell housing instead of timing. There is no ill affects with piston to valve clearance and the relief is fine being the opposite direction. Also the use of evo 8 rings and 2g 7 bolt bearings will produce a solid result correct?
