Are they the same thing or are they 2 totally different things? I was reading a post and saw 25psi on a stutterbox and 40+ on anti-lag. I am considering a BW S37X turbo and was wondering what was better in a racing situation if they differ.
 
It depends on what kind of racing. Most just build boost off the line and aren't true off throttle anti-lag like you see in WRC.

Stutterbox can just be a secondary rev limiter and not actually build boost. People use the terms differently so it would be best to know which ones you are thinking about using. The amount of boost you can actually build is dependent on many things such as how far you are retarding timing etc.
 
They are different.

Stutterbox is used at the line and is a secondary rev limiter. It creates a load on the engine which allows you to build boost while sitting still. Most decent sized turbos will see around 12psi at the line with just stutterbox enabled.

Antilag is used in conjuction with the stutterbox. The antilag retards timing so much that the fuel ignites in the turbine housing of the turbo instead of the cylinder. With antilag you can control how much boost you build at the line. It will build more boost then just stutterbox. The way you control how much boost you build with antilag is you can change how much timing retard there is. And you can also dump more fuel then normal. The more fuel you dump the more boost. Same thing with retarding the timing to a point.

For referance, on my friends car with a gt3082r he built 10psi with just stutterbox through Dsmlink. When he also enabled the antilag he built 28psi with the regular settings. SO he could have built more boost if he added more fuel.
 
Stutterbox = holds RPM at set limit if MPH is less than defined "X" MPH. Anti-Lag = retarded timing + fuel (keeps spooling between shifts, and loud bangs out exhaust). Basically Stutterbox is for launching or no lift shift and would be more safe on your turbo imo.

fires when the valves are open to help the turbo spool up.two different things,stutter box
or 2step is used for all motor cars or cars with small turbos.Anti-lag is used for cars with
big turbos to help spool up at the drag strip.anti-lag can be used between shifts too,when
you shift and the car pulls vacum timing is retarded and you see a big flame:D and it
helps keep the turbo spooled for the next gear.
 
Well I'm looking to go into the full t4 bw s3xx series turbos. So is there one anyone would prefer in a larger a/r t4 housing?
 
If you use Dsmlink you will be able to use either. Its not just about the turbo either. If you have a big turbo building 10psi at the line with the stutterbox That might be too much. If you have a bad suspension/tires with the 10psi you will be spinning and won't have a reason to use antilag because of how much you would be spinning. On the other hand if you have a good suspension/tires you might not build enough boost to keep it from bogging at the line. You are just gonna have to experiment with it.
 
Well the plans are strictly for racing. The whole car is going under a full racing overhaul hopefully before next season (fingers crossed) LOL. Thanks alot for the input I appreciate it.

No problem. Like I said with Dsmlink you will have both options so you can see what works best. That is if you are going to use Dsmlink.
