So I've researched and debated back and forth whether or not a W.I. system needs a variable controller or not. So I'm looking at two possible options for a kit:

1.) $500 - Full Alky Control Kit (for example) with the...
"Ability to electronically adjust turn-on point, initial pump speed pressure, and ramp gain of final pump speed pressure using any 12volt injection pump."

2.) $200 - A DIY Kit that only has one pressure and comes on after a certain amount of boost.

What are the majority of you running Option 1 or 2?
What works best with your setup?
If you chose option 2, do you feel bogged down at lower levels of boost?
Is it worth the extra money for Option 1?

Let me know what you guys think. I really want to go with Water / Alcohol Injection in the future, but not sure if its worth it to save up for a variable kit or just stick with a DIY kit. Thanks for all of your input!

i've got the diy setup where it just comes on at a preset boost. I feel no bog when my water injection kicks in. I dont have it turn on until 17 psi if it helps any.

There's several on eBay right now; the one from CoolingMist is the one I have my eye on:

This is NOT something I'd skimp on guys - make sure you decide what you want to run - water, iso, denatured, methanol - most of your water injection kits will not handle denatured or methanol!

Seriously, don't just look at the link to Turbobuick - click it and start reading the alchy forum. There is a LOT to know. Learn from guys that have been doing this- guys that started out with the windshield washer bottle and fluid, then moved on to better things...

I've about decided to just go preset turn-on at around 15 PSI. The only time you really need WI is at full boost anyway.

Way too late. DSMs love water. My DIY kits turns on at 5 psi and there's no bog and the knock that I had from running a big28 with a stock SMIC is mostly gone (and the rest has now been handled using DSMLink). Granted, it's only a .5 nozzle, but it's better to prevent knock than stop it after it's started.

Agreed, but even on my stock side-mount, l don't get any knock below 15 PSI anyway. With my soon-to-be-installed FMIC, I'd think it would be even less of a problem. I'm just learning, though-- more info is certainly welcome.

I use the smc alcohol kit. Previously bought for two Turbo Trans Ams, with my buddy running it on his Grand National low into the 11's. At first I used the standard kit, it basically had a turn on point and pump speed. However, I noticed that I would get bogged down with so much alcohol injecting at once, my car has a smaller turbo and less cylinders then that of a TTA. SO I called steve and ordered my progressive controller. The controller has worked wonders, I have the alcohol start spraying at about 7psi boost at low pressure and increases to full pressure by about 15psi and holds up to my 25lbs of boost. I noticed that I had no knock, a very good timing line, however my mph on pump gas wasn't where I wanted it and had to also run leaded fuel. Although alcohol is supposed to be a common swap for race gas I didn't get the power I was looking from it. I still use my kit but mostly as a protector from knock and detonation. My experience though with the alcohol is great, and I would always recomend it over water as history tells us it tends to be a little bit better.
