 Where do I begin. I will say this, if you have a 7 bolt, do your research for a 6 bolt conversion. My original block crankwalked at 120k, so now I am going to put a 6 bolt block in, keep my stage 3 head, and call it a day. I am going to forge the block though, not do the 1g big rods with 2g pistons crap... of course I know all I have to do is drill and tap the head threads for the 1g setup, but what else will I need? I know it bolts right onto the transmission, but what about the motor mounts, oil pan, and other miscellaneous stuff will I need to convert? Most people do the entire long block, but I just need the short block, that's it. Now of course, all of my original stuff for my 2G block I can no longer use, but I now have to get 1G stuff, like New ARP hardware, HG again, anything else?

Not to sound insulting or anything, but are you sure it walked? I've read countless threads on 7bolts walking before I bought my GSX and you and maybe 2-3 more people had their engines walk at over 100k miles.

Dude, I had really bad chatter, and I thought it was my clutch, but it was my CPS sensor being crushed by my crank. we could move the flywheel up and down, left and right with everything still attached... Now you tell me what that is? Hard starts, plugs fouling out, chatter everytime the clutch was depressed, hard to get in gear at times, so yeah, chatter away... I had pieces of my cps in my hand...

Ouch, sorry man... this brings back the worry of my engine walking as well. :sosad:

I don't mean to steal the the tread but I'm in the same situation, so any of you guys know if a non turbo 6 bolts crank would be fine?? also I found a lot of info for the swap at magnus site you may wanna check it out.

sorry to hear about the crankwalk at least you have a plan on what to do after. Sorry I couldnt be any help.

Ever 2g owner should have a 6bolt ready to swap in, just in case. ;)

Seems like a waste to me, from my reading looks like less then 10% of 2gb's walk, not exactly enough IMO to have a backup 6 bolt sitting around. 2ga's have a much higher rate around 35% but still not a high enough rate to assume your is going to walk.

I was wondering the OP's build date as it seems that atleast from June of 1997 they switched to the new split thrust bearing design & was wondering if his motor had this?

Oo, I hope a comet doesn't collide with my sunroof

Yeah. IF your thrust bearing fails, you can repair it. Just like the hundreds of other things that are liable to be used-up in a hundred-thousand miles.

If you want to read about crankwalk, use one of the threads about it already on this forum.
