Out of gear: Never a problem.
3rd, 4th, and 5th gear: Barely a problem.
1st and 2nd gear: Whenever I jump on it hard, the shifter rattles and it sounds really bad.

It just started a few months ago. I noticed if I hold the shifter (upward when in 1st, downward in 2nd) it doesn't rattle at all.

Is there anyway to tighten the shifter so it won't do this? Is it anything to be worried about?

mine does too, i have grinded pistons so it vibrates a little more than it should and i took the stupid rubber grometts and bushings out of the shifter and used washers. solid! cept now it vibrates more (worst in 2nd with high rpms). my stick is kindda loose on the pivot. check that maybe throw some washers on there.

If it makes that much noise it should be fairly obvious what it is if you look. Try taking out the center console and driving around to make it rattle. Then just keep your eyes open for what may be causing it.
