I am sick of my friends having fast cars and me only having a 13-14sec cAR what can i do to get in the high 11s?

First thing you need is lots of patience. Then i would just start looking at the 1/4 mile times list, and see what other gst owners are doing to hit 10's. It's not easy being fwd.Look foward to spending thousands:D

First question I have for you is do you have about 10g to invest? If not then don't even think about 10's at this time.

I dont think it will cost 10k. It shouldn't if you go like me and get good buys on everything you need. I would reccomend a awd thought. With a GST you may need 10k to run 10 second 1/4 miles. I wouldnt look to running 10 sec quarter miles, you should just have a goal of beating your friends. What kind of cars do they have. If you just had a mildly modded awd then you would probably beat them bad.

On a second thought maybe your car doesnt even run right. I would recomend doing a boost leak test and making sure the ignition timing is right too. The ignition timing for my car is 5 degrees btdc. The right ignition timing and good good boost leak test make a world of a difference. Spray soapy water on everything because just because you cant hear a boost leak doesnt mean its not there. I tend to have air always leak out of the biss screw. Since you installed a FMIC you may have some boost leaks.

It really depends on what your skill level is and what you're prepared to do to your car to get it there. Most people can't have a reliable daily driver that does 10 second quarters. Do your research on other cars in the speed range you want to be in. There are 14b cars that run 11's, and there are GT4X cars that run 12's. Also, don't expect to copy someones setup and have it run a number. Driver and tuning (engine, suspension, chassis, etc.) all come into play.

Thanks everyone I am still researching everything, and yes this is my daily driver so I cant get to crazy. My friends have f-bodys, ls1's,rouches mustangs, Honda hatch backs, sr-t (neon), evos (8-9). I REALLY WANT TO BEAT MY FRIEND CHICO'S GS-T HE HAS A 20G TURBO, 20G HEADER, BOV AND THATS ABOUT IT, HOW CAN I BEAT HIM? I RELIZE THIS WON'T BE GOING TO THE TRACK to often BUT I'D LIKE TO MAKE SOME MONEY AGAINST SOME F-BODYS AND CAMEROS.

Huh?

if your friend has a 20g he probably has more than just a manifold and bov. get some good suspension to compete w/ rear drive cars like those. weight transfer when launching a fwd is a big key. also a good set of tires and light rims can be one of the best mods you do, no point making power if you cant make it stick to the pavement.

Very right I have looked into rims but am unsure of a brand I can trust and size I would prefer Enkei Or Konig 17'-18' in and I just redid the post two above so you could understand.

motegi trak lite 2.0 are sweet...17x8 and weigh 15.5 lbs each. you can fit 235s without issues, but more than that you need to leard offset and look out for fender flares/ lip rolling. there are a shit ton of good tires, im looking at dunlop direzza z star spec, i hear good reviews and they are decently priced.
Just so you know, there is no 20g manifold. There is Mitsubishi flanged manifold, T3, T4, etc.
If you want to beat your friend do all your maintenance, evo3 16g it with some 750's and dsmlink, get some tires and good clutch, try some weight reductions, and have at it!

dont bother going 18, you need some sidewall give to get traction. are you trying to drag race?

Yeah not at the track though if you know what I mean ; ) I have a few questions about turbos if you have time let me know . I would really appreciate it.

First let me start off by saying that I recently signed up to this forum. I have been reading this forum for about two years now and have been working on dsm's, mustangs, camaros, hondas, etc for years. I am no where near a newb to eclipses and cars in general but I guess you have to post a certain amount to gain status. With that being said, keep street racing to yourself. Its illegal, it can hurt you and it pisses people off so dont mention it. Second, do not throw parts at your car just because you want to beat your friends. Im telling you this from experience. You will just blow things up and then your friends will laugh at you and meanwhile you have no money to fix anything. Build up the car the way you want and do it right the first time. After you gain knowlegde and build up the car right the first time you will find yourself beating your friends without investing tons of money. Also dont even think about running ten seconds if you havent even run 14 seconds yet. Being fast is about skill and knowlegde of how the car works. You can throw 10 grand at your car and still run 14 seconds. Read the forums, search for random things as you think of them, trust me, if you can think of it someone has already been through it. You can pretty much answer any of your questions yourself by reading everything on this forum. Hope this steers you in the right direction.

Ok, first off your talking about drag right not track? Track an road racing you need 17's that are light real light with about 235/40 or 45 tires. As for drag I've been told by 2 8 sec guys to run 15's. Like welds. They weigh 8 to 10 lbs. Run 235/60 or 50 on them for traction. The higher the side wall the more traction you get.

you only need as big a rim that will fit over your brakes... width is more important than diameter.... the rest is tire selection and tire pressure

But I do like the look of bigger rims:thumb:

What 97gsxturbo97 said is very true. I agree to an extent. Once you know how it feels and how hard it is and the time it takes to do these things to your car you may end up stuck, or feel like giving up. I wanted the fastest car in my county, and that dream was 2 years ago, now Im sitting here without a motor in the car because I got mad, Ill I wanted to do is drive my car, I didnt want to work on it too much. Its hardest for me because my older brother yells all the time about my car. Sometimes I feel like giving up, Im trying to paint my car and finish an engine rebuild at the same time. I have the knowledge to do what I need to do but I dont have the time. I still have the dedication as well, but after getting yelled at all the time and put down I just feel like crap all the time and the cars just going to sit longer. I would reccomend doing boost leak tests and porting to get your free hp, and that way you will learn and know what hard work is. I did some engine rebuilds and swaps for my friends and did porting for them for free because I wanted there car to be fast. No matter how fast you make your car it will never be the fastest. And dont savatage another guys motor so you can beat him, my friend bout a gsx with needle bearing throw in the intake and it ruined the turbo.

What's a 20g header?

You are far from 10's. You'll need more than bolt-ons to make it there. People on here with 50 trims can break 11's. If you're looking for 10's I'd suggest going with a Garrett setup which will cost a lot of dough. You'll need a manifold that'll bolt up to a Garrett turbo, an O2 housing and downpipe and it will not be a direct bolt-on turbo. Since you're a 2g, you'll also need heavy modifications to the block to withstand the amount of boost you'll need to run. Forged internals, ARP bolts, etc etc are recommended. Also expensive and time consuming.

Take a look at it this way. If you're looking to make big numbers on a DD, it ain't happening unless you have a spare car and can afford downtime. You'll also need a lot of dough as well. Think about it for the future. You're probably wanting to live the F&F dream. Will you put yourself in debt just so you can run 10's and be "Dom Toretto?" The amount of cash you'll win from races will not add up to the costs and time. Trust me, if you're only looking to have a DSM just for that, you're not cut out to own a DSM. You got to love it in order to enjoy it. Street racing is also bad. Quit it before you get yourself killed or worst, someone else.
