This damn alternator wont come off! Im trying to save money by replacing it my self but i've been trying to get it off for three days now. This is ridiculous... I've taken both bolts off and loosened the lock bolt and the tension bolt. It wont move. Theres one more bolt holding it on in the middle that is on there extremly tight and i believe its because the pully is still pulling down on it making it hard to unscrew. Someone please explain to me how to get this thing out. i've read the haynes manual front and back on this one and still it sits in my engine bay mocking me...:(

1. Unscrew the nuts holding on the positive and negative cables. (2) undo the tensioner, should be a bolt that goes into the alternator on the left side and a bolt that's perpendicular screwing itself into the tensioner block. (3)You should be able to lift the alternator up and down, now take out the bolt that the alternator rotates on (its on the bottom close the the oil filter. Also you should have to have a wrench on both ends to hold the nut while you loosen the bolt or vise versa. After you take that out you should be able to pull the alternator towards you and it will come out.

Also when I had to replace my alternator the power steering pump had to be moved out of the way to get to the alternator. Be sure no air gets in the lines or you'll have to bleed it.

His car is a N/T so it has a 420a in it, on a 420a the power steering pump is on the front of the engine and the alternator is on the back toward the firewall. The power steering pump does not need to be removed. Just thought I'd clear that up.
