So yesterday I went through a car wash and when I came out I noticed a slight little chirp/squeak. I figured maybe some water got on some belt or something but this morning when I took my girlfriend to work it was still squeaking. When I got back I popped the hood to hunt it down and I noticed that the alternator belt is what is squeaking. I've read numerous threads and freaked out about crankwalk since I have a 7-bolt but the squeak doesn't go away when I push the clutch in. I noticed that there is a pulley wobbling. It is under the big pulley if that makes sense.

I'm just trying to figure out the name of that stupid thing so I can replace it, and also how I replace it. Also, how long can I go without replacing this thing because I am out of town and have to drive it for 4.5 hours tomorrow.

The pulley that is wobbling, is it the very bottom one where the the alternator belt wraps around on the bottom? Then that would be the crank pulley. I would get that checked out asap, because that thing flys off and your drive is done:cry:

It has a big center bolt that attaches it to the crank, a 1/2 in ratchet fits on it. The pulley itself has four 12mm bolts i think holding it as well.

In rare cases, the pulley can separate in half due to wearing out of the center section.

Okay I took off the wheel and all the splash shields to examine it better. This is what's wrong.

What is that called? I can try and replace it today. I'm assuming you just take off those 4 bolts and the belt and put it back on. Without turning that crank of course.

Harmonic balancer/dampener. I ordered one for $80 from O'Reilly Auto and it will be here at 4. It's an emergency so I don't have time to get an OEM or whatever that $300 black one is. Fwoo. So maybe I just need to explore myself but how to I remove that belt? I've never done anything with belts before.

That is the crank pulley/ or harmonic balancer to be exact.. Are the 4 bolts loose ? Tug it and see if it feels separating. I'am looking at the pic and you can see the dampening rubber in between cracked, this would be prone to separating. Make sure you are buying a similar crank pulley from oreilly, the pulley should have dampening silicone, rubber as a 2 piece similar to this. Oem ones go for around 135 like on jnztuning for example.

You could remove the four small bolts you see on it without removing the big center bolt if you have to replace it. You will have to hit it with a mallet or kick it to pry off sometimes. Be careful with your timing cover.

You must untension the belts first, look at the alternator bracket, it has a tensioner that you must unscrew to loosen belt..Also if you have a/c, the tensioner is in back looking down by the firewall. Loosen water pump pulley bolts to loosen belt also. Check your pulley first before having to do all this work, its tedious, i hate it:mad:

Four bolts torque to 18 ft/lbs and big center bolt to 87 ft/lbs

I got it changed out. They gave me an underdrive pulley, which I didn't want, but I'll return it and get an OEM one or maybe save for a Fluidampr. Glad to not have that wobble. Thanks for the help.
