RESOLVED!!!!!!! So I installed my Alpine Type S door speakers and tweeters.

When I turn up the volume the tweeters make a really loud cracking/screetching noise.

I cant turn it up that loud and my type s speakers and 6x9s can go wayyyyyy louder but the tweeters are holding them back.

HELP! I WANT TO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC LOUD! LOL.

Are these component speakers or just tweeters you bought alone? Im guessing that youre gonna need a crossover to cut out the lower tones to the tweeters. Playing the wrong tones through your speakers is what blows them, not too much power.

So I need to get a crossover? They dont have one stock?

I just threw in 6.5 Type S in the Doors, and also the tweeters. I took out the stock ones and just connected it right to the new ones...

there are some tweeters you can just throw on, because they have a bass blocker/built in xover. sounds like the one you have don't, which is rare these days, and usually will only come with a component set that has an external passive xover.

BUT, strangely enough, if the tweeters are still working, it means you might be running a stock stereo, or at an aftermarket one wired correctly with the stock amp.

In a stock setup, the stock amp IS the xover as well and passes through only the higher signals to the dash speakers. So it should still be in play at this point, unless they are all wired directly.

Then again you have an N/T which may mean you don't have the infinity sound and the stock amp and could lead to my theory of them being wired directly (parallel) to be correct thus why they sound like crap.

Ahh, the 2g sound setup is like a maze that I know how to get through..

So what should I do?

My right tweeter I disconnected because It made that really loud cracking noise and then when I turn it down it makes a chirping sound now. The other one is fine at that level but this one is chirping it sounds like a frog. LOL

Id try another set of tweeters with something built in to block your lower frequencies. You might have already blown them too.

I cant find a set of alpine type s tweeters that are just sold alone. you might have a set from some components so they dont have the ability to block the bass frequencies because the crossover handles it.

you were probably looking at a pic of the crossover in the manual. Show me where you were reading this.

Do I have to directly wire the tweeters to the radio?

No you need some sort of crossover so the midrange and bass signal doesn't get sent to the tweeter. The simplest crossover form is a non-polar capacitor in series with the tweeter.

Since you had the tweeters connectors without protecting them from bass signals they are likely damaged now.

This is starting to drive me crazy. Read carefully OP,

Buy this part
Satnet 400 - CDT Audio 2 Way Crossovers
install them how the included instructions tell you
do it right
quit cutting corners
youre still being lazy
got it? nope... not quite yet.
There ya go! turn up the stereo and enjoy.
dont pick at them, theyre fine.

Did your tweeters come as a kit with the door speakers or did you buy them separately?

Do your door speakers look like a "miniature subwoofer" or do they also have a tweeter built in?

No they came with the door speakers. It came with two 6.5 inch speakers and two tweeters.

and for jdodds, why doesnt my car already have a built in crossover?

and im not being lazy. I connected them how i thought they go. They didnt say exactly how to install them.

read my post above.

I don't know if you mentioned it, but the NT did not come with the premium infinity sound standard.

do you see an AMP under the passenger seat? If not, then you don't have it, nor do you have the built in xover, meaning you have to see how the previous owner ghetto-rigged your stuff.

At this point I would start clean and see how it was wired.

If there is an amp, is it even hooked up? Meaning, if you have an aftermarket deck, did he use a MITAH adapter harness.

There are many variables, like I said when it comes to 2g audio, I know it pretty well, but without you supplying more info and pics of wiring behind the deck and of the amp I'm only as helpful as what I see.

I think the alpine's come with a built-in inline crossover. Did you install them such that both speakers are on one channel from the deck?

Did you use the wiring that came with the speakers, or did you just connect them to the factory wiring?

If you used the factory wiring, that is probably your problem. Since the alpine's have in-line crossovers, you need to use the wiring supplied with the speakers for the install. OR you can cut out the crossovers and re-connect them inline with your factory wiring.

Ill go take some pics. Brb.

The first pic is of the wire i hooked up the tweeter to. ( There is a yellow wire with a red stripe and a grey with a red stripe and a black. ( yes i know the pos. on the tweeter is disconected.)

and the second pic is the only thing i saw underneath the passanger dash.

Most speakers have built in(inline) crossovers. Alpine Type R tweeters DO NOT.

Show me what else you have in your car as far as audio goes. Maybe we can make this less of a headache and find something that will work for you.

thanks so much jdodds. your a great help! now lets solve this!:hellyeah:

heres me whole audio system :

Radio: Alpine CDA-105
Type S 6.5 inch door speakers and seperate tweeters

Type S 6x9s

And i have two 12 inch power acoustik subs that i have to put it. ( I know how to do these no prob. )

So do you think I need a crossover like you said?

grey/red = negative
yellow/red = positive

i don't know what that black is for.

also i meant to say, if i didn't already, is to check under PASSENGER SEAT

if you don't see an amp there, then that will start putting the puzzle together,

someone said alpine tweeters dont have a built in bassblocker/cap/xover, and since you dont have the stock amp which has the built in xover, that could be your problem

Do you know which model Alpine Type S 6.5" speakers you have?

The SPS-600C has built in crossover network in the Alpine cable for the tweeters that you must use and connect to the midrange not directly to the radio/amp. So the tweeters connect to the network cable which connects to the midrange and the radio/amp connects to it.

The SPS-171A has a separate crossover that both the midrange and tweeter connect to and the wiring from the radio/amp runs to it.

These are typical setups for a component pair and you'll note that in either case the tweeter is not connected directly to the radio/amp wiring.

Speaking of amps, do you have one? The Alpine CDA-105 like most indash radios puts out about 18W/channel in reality.

If you bought them new they came with special cables for you to connect them to the other speaker in the doors. That cable is part of the crossover network for the tweeters to protect them and so that the pair present the correct load to the radio. Since you have one that is making bad noises you'll likely have to replace it. Hooking it up correctly now isn't going to fix it. Since it sounds like you want to mount the tweeters in the dash and the 6.5" midranges in the doors you'll have to run that special wire into the door to the speaker.

Does this make sense to you now?
