I bought a Kenwood component set I want to install. I have an amp too. I am going to mount it under the passenger side seat.

Anyways, the car is a 96 and I was curious how the tweeters run in together with the speakers stock. I am going to have to run all new speaker wiring now cause the amp will be under the seat and the component set has crossovers.

Does anybody know a link to a tutorial or wiring map of something like this? I did a search and found nothing like this. Just a bunch or audio update questions really.

Thanks everybody!!! :dsm:

Your components should have come with an external crossover. Install the tweeters and run a speaker wire from the tweeters to the external crossover. You can use the stock door speaker wiring from the door speaker to the external crossover.

You cannot use factory tweeter wiring because they are wired in parallel and are 12ohms. If you use the factory tweeter wiring you will barely hear anything from it.

Excellent tutorial thanks!

Actually now I am concerned about the door speakers. I noticed they wired the speakers into the main harness that run through the boot and into the car. I was just going to run seperate wire and leave the stock behind, however, I'm not sure its going to be very easy or possible to fish wire through that boot. You know what I mean?

Excellent tutorial thanks! But does the tweeter wiring run down under the dash or into the doors? I am hoping it is in an area where I can just tape on some new speaker wire and "fish" it through to the top.
I am assuming that your components came with external crossover boxes. Here's what you do:
1) Mount the external crossover anywhere inside the car (mine are under my stereo, I made a plastic panel using a plastic plate from ebay).
2) Take the wires from your door speakers (near the CD player) and connect them to the "woofer" output on your crossovers
3) Take the wires from your CD player and connect them to the "input" on your crossovers
4) Install your tweeters:
a) For the driver side, take the gauge cluster out and run wire behind the cluster and drop it to the area where your CD player is.
b) For the passenger side, take your glove compartment down (there are 2 tabs on each side) and let it fall down. Now install your tweeters and feed the wire behind it and near the CD player.
c) Once you have both wires from your tweeters, connect them to the "tweeter" output on your crossovers.

That's it. You are done! :thumb:

EDIT: Leave the boot alone, you don't even need to touch it. Just make sure you are getting an install harness for the CD player, it makes install so much easier.

Hey guys quick question? Can you just buy tweeters that will plug right into the front dash location?

I don't think they make any. You can try to fit a small 3 1/2" Alpine full range speaker in there, according to crutchfield, it fits. Check the tech guide I posted above in the second post, it really isn't that hard.

Ok, well I appreciate your help but I understand how to hook them up to the crossover boxes. I was curious about the wiring. my stock speaker wiring was wired in with the whole harness that runs from the doors and into the dash. I just bypassed those and ran all new speaker wire. All I need to the amp now is RCA from my deck to my amp for a signal.

So, thats what I have been doing. It was a #($@# trying to fish the new wire from the door, through that platic boot, and into the car.
