I want to build a kickass system, but I'm gonna peice it together bit by bit. Speakers first, then deck, then amp(s) then sub(s).

So i started off by grabbing some 6.5" Alpine Type R speakers for the front of my car. Do you guys think this was a good choice?
Basically I'd like some inut on speaker choices, and if Type R's make the cut.

I have the Alpine Type-X Components and Type-R 6.5 coaxils. They sound terrific.

I dont' think you will be dissapointed with Alpine.

definetely ALPINE!! the new type R's are great. lots of improvements from efficiency and cooling, even looks and build

you'll like them!

it's all i run with

Back in my car audio days...The alpines were ok, I kinda stayed away from them because I have heard nothing but bad things like they werent that loud enough or sounded like ass, im talkin about there subs, but there component speakers and stuff were decent. If you really want the best you cant go wrong with JL Audio yes they are a bit pricey but thats where that phrase comes in "you get what you pay for"

I had a badass JL audio system back in high school and I was the god of all systems no one at school had anything louder than me haha was great...ahh good ol high school days :D

I'm glad you guys are fans of the type r's. But now I ask how should I go about progressing?
I installed the speakers in teh rfont doors today and while its an improvement, I find that my stock front tweets are excessively loud, preventing me from fully using my new speakers. But thats minor. What I'm really concerned about is what 6x9's should I pick up, 2-way type r's? do they have 3-ways? Are 3-ways better? And this infinity deck/amp combo have really gotta go..What should I replace them with? Do I need an amp at all? I woudl really like to have 50w or so RMS going to those speakers, and I know of no deck alone that will provide that..
Anyways, I'm unsure of how to procede, any advise would be appreciated! thanks!

I suggest slightly overpowering the Type R Alpines. they will love it and so will you! i have the Type R components, and they are suggested 50w RMS, i run 85wRMS, and they are AWESOME!! i started with 45w, then upgraded amps to 65w, now again to 85w and it got better every time!!

i'm assuming you have the Coaxials, not the components, cuz you said your stock tweets are overpowering. maybe disconnect them, or trade up to the components. as for the rears, the R 6x9's will be a good choice as well.

if you're looking for an amp, the Alpine MRV-F240 would be an ideal choice. retails for around $220, that is the V-power amp (rated at 40wRMS x 4 @ 4ohm). otherwise, the V-12 series F340 is a great amp too. that would be a better choice but the price is higher as well ($399 i think) and the MRV-F540 would be the top of the line for your 4ch Alpine amp. sweet sounding, and enough power (80w x 4 @ 4ohm). probably slightly overkill for what your looking for though. i still suggest the MRV-F240

enjoy the system!

My front is 6.5 Type R components in door witht he tweets mounted in the top sail panels. Rear are type R 6x9 and a 10" type R sub.

The front is running off a Crossfire 50W amp, the 6x9 is running off the deck, ( dont need much power there as itis mostly faded to the front any way. I just use the back for a bit of fill and to pull the sound off my dash.} and the Sub is riunning off a 400W Crossfire Mono amp. system kicks ass. You cant go wrong with it.

Sure you could spend more money on JL or CDT or even rainbow, but why? unless you are competing.

myself, i'm NOT a fan of JL Audio. not that it's a bad brand or anything, and it does play LOUD... but i think the subs are sloppy. they get loud, but that's all. to me, they just don't sound as clean as other subs. the JL components are alright, again, loud and decently clean, but lacking in the midrange. they seem to have decent low end/midbass, and good highs, but not enough midrange.

i really like my Type R components. the tweets are extremely bright, but the new 2005 R's have been changed a lot in that area. a much softer transition now, and not as bright. lots of improvements. the X's almost dont have enough highs for me though. they are EXTREMELY smooth IMO, but almost lacking in the highs for my personal taste. they are there alright, but just not quite enough for me. one of the better sound systems overall still i think though.

Well this is how it's gonna be.
I"m getting a 5v Eclipse deck with subcontrol, a kicker 5 channel amp (80wx4rms and 380wrms for sub i think 4 ohm) keeping the 2 way type r's and getting 2 eclipse 6x9's in the rear and the sub will be a dual voice MTX 12".

What do you guys think?
I"m worried that without my dash speakers my highs will be non existant..but thats the price i pay for not getting the components the first tme around.

i run an apline R with 2 c7's and it hits hard as hell! I like them alot
