hello DSM'RS

bought my first DSM and will reach 100k pretty soon, just wanted to know what things to replace and if any one knows where they sell good and also complete bundle kits like for the timing and gaskets??

links are very appreciated :thumb:

Maintenance is always good no matter how you look at it. A good rule of thumb is that if you don't know when something was done last, do it. Not only is it a peace-of-mind deal, it'll also save you in the long run.

All timing components, balance shaft components (if they havent been eliminated), fix any visable leaks, check all coolant hoses, plugs, wires. Pretty much give everything a good check over.

i bought it from dealership so how do i know if the shaft was eliminated? and what is it?...

is there a good site to go to that has a bundle pack type thing... i been through some links but they dont sell a complete kit..

Im on my phone so i dont have any links.. But in the top left there hit the tech tab, tech guide index..Maintenence will be right in there.
for the mileage its pretty much everything needs be replaced :ohdamn: would a engine rebuilt kit pretty much take care of everything then or no???

You will know if the Balance Shaft has been eliminated if you take off the lower timing cover. But you will also need to remove your crank pulley, alternator belt, power steering belt and a/c belt. Then you can get the covers off and the balance shaft belt will be at the bottom a little tiny belt with teeth grooves on it.
Here is a picture of it Balance Shaft Belt

If you are going to do your timing components and want a kit I believe that Extremepsi.com has a kit for that maybe STM | STREET TUNED MOTORSPORTS | DSM | EVO | SUBARU | PERFORMANCE & DYNO TUNING (I prefer STM personally). Also you may want to look into getting the special tools to help you.
I got this helped me out a lot. Jay Racing Timing Belt Tools Kit [TBTS] - $50.00 : Jay Racing

Oh check your crank pulley make sure it is not cracking or seperating. IF it is going out I reccomend replacing with a Fluidampr, but you can also use the OEM one.
Disclaimer: if you decide to get a Fluidampr: the alternator belt has a chance of being to small so keep that in mind.

Now you may have the question with those kits, do I want OEM or other? Well most people reccomend OEM ONLY, but Gates belts are also good and I personally use the Gates Blue Belts.

Check all your fluids, change if you haven't in a while, oil filter.

may as well do a Boost Leak test make sure you don't have any leaks.

Partsdinosaur.com has timing kits and balance shaft elimination kits as well. He's pretty quick at getting back to your emails if you have any questions. Has OEM parts for kits.

I'm 188K on the chassis and a JDM motor installed 10yrs before. Thing runs like a top. All I did was belts and MT-90 fluid change to the tranny.

I'd be worrying on basic maintenance: oil changes, coolant flushings, air filters, tire rotations with correct air pressures, than on that other junk that isn't really needed to keep your ride running for another 100k miles.

I was hoping this was about money.

...now I wonder the most ever invested in a DSM

Ok I wont be totally useless here, but most everything has been covered. If you can score a lift, bring it up and use a flashlight to inspect everywhere on the undercarriage. Look for fresh leaks and clean up any old buildup with purple power . That way the next time you check it you can check for slow leaks

And slow leaks usually comes from dry and hardened teflon seals - like mains, cam, transmission, diff and axle seals....all have one thing in common: AGE.

Big thing when seals starts to leak around a rotaing shaft, is to get them changed out pronto. Otherwise, the hardened material will actually cut a very small groove in the soft steel and no new seal will cure that leak unless you rebuild the metal, or do a replacment.

Smoking while at a stop sign and blowing a bunch out when starting out are those teflon valve seals that suffered the same fate as the others of being dry and hardened.
