I have been looking into buying a 92' Talon with 146,xxx miles on it, from what I've read it has a ProSport Boost Gauge, Custom 2.5" cat-back exhaust, VooDoo III MBC @ 15.5 psi, K&N Air Filter, Hard Intake Pipe, Strut Bar, 2g shift knob, and LSD 4 bolt rear end. But it pops out of first gear (He says almost never) he is selling the car in Georgia and we were planning to drive there from Florida, the car was $3,000 but he changed it to $2,500 and he says he won't go any lower. Is it worth it?
 
1st gear pop, not good. It'll get progressively worse till 2nd gear starts popping, then it becomes undriveable. Set aside about $1000 for a rebuild now. With the engine off, engage the tranny from the engine compartment, then press the clutch in and start the motor and release the clutch in gear. If you do this a few times in a row and 1st gear never pops, then you might be O.K. as it could be play in the shifter linkage. If it pops I recommend an immediate rebuild otherwise the damage becomes alot more expensive.
 
Best case: shifter cables need adjustment or they are not clamped down securely (at ends or in middle) or shifter has excessive play. Worst case: 1st-2nd gear shift fork is worn down or 1st gear dog teeth are worn/broken. Attached is a picture of a worn gear shift fork which caused 4th to pop out.

But would you say its still worth it if I set aside $1,000? He said there is no way he would bring the price down anymore then $2,500, but its an AWD(Which is what I want) its also very clean (Title wise and car wise).
 
If its a really clean car id say 2500 is worth it, and if it does need a rebuild oh well most dsm trannys go to crap soonier or later its the nature of its age.

Hey, I'm the seller of that car the op is talking about. I feel like it might be the shifter linkage that's causing the problem. Can you give me some info on how shifter cables are adjusted?
