ok i just bought a 1996 gsx 5 speed and at first i didn't notice it because i never got on it but now i am testing the waters and it sounds and feels like a deep toned aftermarket exhaust @ 4000 rpm from the inside of the car. is this normal? was the gsx ment to be a rolling rumble or is my rear diff 1: screwed 2: need lube or 3: something else that i can't think of because i just don't know. i am really curious to what other 2g or 1g owners have to say.

Much in the way that Spinal Tap's amp goes to 11, DSM differentials go to just under zero. You shouldn't hear it at all.

Yeah, checking the fluid would have been a good first step. Before it was ever driven.

yeah i know, but when you get a chance to buy a gsx for cheap reality gets blurry. i'll check it out right away. anymore advise or watchouts?

Well sometimes i can sorta hear whining gears in my car, but ive got the entire inside of the car gutted. It might just be in my head cause its not really all that noticeable. I dunno if its the Tcase, rear diff, or tranny, but it almost seems like it only does it right after startup at the begining of the day till it gets good and warm, but that could be in my head also. So i dont really know, the sound my car makes isnt very loud at all, O and it only seems to be in 1st or 2nd at a low rpm....and my car has all fresh fluids, so i guess if it is your gears somewhere you must have a problem.

hey clownface thats also what i hear/ faint and distant. my car is down right now to get a full maintenace done..fuel filter.head rebuilt..spark plug wires..timing belt..ect. and transfluid...axles..and rear diff

my gears whine every now and then as well, but ive never heard of a rumble from anything other than my exhaust....

do think thats what it might be @ 4000rpm? i wasn't informed of aftermarket fuel pump installed but doesn't high flow pumps make noise instantly the accelerator is pressed or is it all the time, i can't remember.
