I have the RS49. My turbo will not hold boost. In 1st gear it hits 20 then falls back quick, in 2nd it hits 20 then falls back to 12, in 3rd gear it falls back to 9 which is where it stays in all the following gears. I HAVE NO BOOST LEAKS. I put a spring on the WG actuator to keep more pressure on it to hold it shut and it held to about 11-12. I tried moving the arm over for the actuator (BULLS-EYEPOWER HOUSING) to make it tighter and it does not help. I was told that its cause my car has the STOCK 1G 02 housing and its not allowing the exhaust to get out and thats why my turbo is not holding boost. Anyone else have this problem?
Tom

I just had this problem recently. A few weeks ago it was holding 17 lbs of boost perfectly and now it will hit 20 then drop down. And I still havent diagnosed/fixed the problem yet.

what setup are you running. I have a 2G actuator, but i put a spring on it to hold the door shit and it only went up to 11-12.

everything is stock other then some free mods, dejon upper intercooler piping, an ARO mbc, 3in straight piping, and a 3in downpipe

Hmm, I wonder if there is something else wrong. I did check for boost leaks again and i hear a LITTLE leak from the TB where the return spring is for the butterfly, HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THEM LEAKING. I AM PRETTY SURE THATS NOT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I CAN PRESSUREIZE THE INTAKE AND IT WILL GO UP TO 14psi, its hard to make it go higher with the Air comprssor cause it wants to blow the coupling off the turbo. It has to be wastegate related cause with a spring helping hold the door closed i can get 12psi rather than 9. I was told by bullseye (and i trust dave over there cause he is a really good SMART DSM guy), that it is cause my 02 housing is stock and is not letting the exhaust flow enough and its backing up in the turbo. I JUST WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS HAD THIS PROBELM.

What does that have to do with the problem that i am having. I guess if i have to add in that i have 680cc injectors, 255pump. So now that we have that cleared up maybe someone could give some input on why maybe my turbo will not hold a constant 20psi. Its like as soon as the wastegate opens it will stay at 10 it only will hit 20 for a split SECOND. Could it be that the exhaust is restricting it so much that its pushing the gate open or causeing the turbo to just have compressor stall and not boost over 10. This thing really needs to be boosting at LEAST 20 cause everything for fuel is all set.
Thanks if anyone has any input

I'm not sure if you noticed, but he wasn't talking to you.

Oh okay, Sorry, Anyone think that the exhuast is building up and not letting the turbo spool or the gate is blowing open. My friend has the same problem on his 20G. I am using the 2G actuator and it is EXTREMLY tight but it does not seem to really matter.

Apparently he's not so smart. A stock 1g O2 housing will not restrict you to 9 psi, or 11 psi. Maybe to 20 or 25 psi, MAYBE.

Wire the wastegate shut to see if the boost goes up. Be careful, that gives you effectively zero boost control if it is the problem.

Okay here is my diagnosis. I wired the wastegate shut, and i get a 25lbs of boost and then it falls and holds between 20-22. It will stay at 22 but not go any higher, WHY IS IT NOT SPOOLING ANY HIGHER. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET TO 30PSI i would think. COULD IT BE THAT THE 02 Housing is retricting the boost on the top end but the wastegate is not holding the pressure on the low end. Right now it seems that i need a 02 housing and a NEW 20PSI Actuator that can hold the flow of my t3/t4. I also have a stock upper intercooler pipe, so with the 3 of them changed i should be able to get this thing tuned correct. Right now i can drive around all day with 22psi and have the wastegate wired and it wont go any higher.
