Any ways heres whats happeneing:
I installed my electic oil pressure gauge + sending unit today. I couldnt get the hex bolts off the oil filter housing and my teacher told me that it could crack if i try really hard, so i gave up there. Then I figured i'd just take my OEM sendiing unit off, and put my aftermarket in its place. So i did that and wired up the aftermarket gauge to the sending unit, and i even put the oem wire on the aftermarket sending unit hoping it would be close enough.
Any ways after turningt he car on the aftermarket gauge goes past the 100PSI mark, and the OEM gauge goes up the the H.

No dummy lights or any thing are on.

before this every thign was fine.
Is there something i could have screwed up on?
Also could I just use my oem sending unit witht he aftermarket gauge and get an accurate result?

Thanks.

I had a this problem, at first it was not that bad then it got so high I broke the 0-100 mech. gauge I was using and I was blowing the gaskets out of oil filters. It ultimatly came down to a faulty oil pressure relief. When i pulled it, it was siezed. Something to check if your at wits end, takes about 15 minutes to pull, but you will need a new gasket more that likely. Gasket was just shy of $4 and brand new housing was $80 shipped from Luzzi Mitsubishi in Lake Havasu, Az.

Nope i still have balance shafts and this motor was pulled outta wrecked talon had 80k miles on it.... iono what the heck it is. Im runnin 10w40. Someone was telling me the oil pressure sensor could be worn out broken etc. Iono. Im lost, the oil pump looks brand new to me. But id like to get it fixed while i have the whole front side of the motor off trying to build a 02 housing and ext. mount on manni :)

If the only differnce between now and then is the body the engine is in, it is the gauge itself. There is no reason at all for the pressure to change from one body to the next if nothing was done to the engine. All you are experiencing is the that every gauge reads different.

I have no idea what this motor used to read on the other car tho i bought it from a yard..... It still has the same oil pump housing that came with the motor.... I did tear off the timing belt and stuff to replace it but never took the oil pump off. Should i try puttin my old oil pump on this motor?

I know it isnt bad to have high oil pressure, but I wanted to know if anyone else has something close. The car was just rebuilt by the last owner and it has the balance shafts removed so he said it gives it higher oil pressure, anyways I searched and stock should be around 15 at idle and 55 at wot, mine is at 25 at idle and it is at almost 90 wot. I dont think there is anything wrong, but it really was weird to me.

I'm guessing that if this piece were broken you wouldn't get any readings at all, but when I was swapping turbos I broke a piece off of the oil filter housing, which has the oil pressure sending unit on it. The unit is just a little tiny piece next to the oil filter, and unfortunately those do get banged up a little bit while driving, so that could be one thing to check out. Good luck

Sounds just like mine. If you've removed the balance shafts and not ported the opening on the oil filter housing then you'll often see pressure above 100psi and as low as 10 or so at idle.

Not to bring a thread back from the dead, but is 100+ psi ok or should I do something about it? I see about 20 at idle and 100 (or more) at WOT. I have removed the balance shafts. The oil is on the high end, maybe a biscuit over the full mark, so that might be causing some high pressure, but I doubt that much...

Thanks,

Nope, thats completely normal pressure for our cars. Mine will go past 100psi when its cold and I rev it up. Once its all warmed up I get around 25psi at idle, and around 65ish at 3k cruising 70-75 on the highway. Oil pressure is RPM based, not throttle position based; so the pressure should be the same at 6k weather you are at full throttle or not.

Start to worry if your pressure drops below that, but until then it sounds like your running just fine.

At Idle my gauge reads just above the 0 (because of my gauges scale) then at WOT it is like 100+
If that helps at all.

Also hook up your stock gauge/sending unit at the same time, i have yet to do it (on the todo list) but this way you can get an accurate comparison if every thing is fine... (compare oyour oem gauge to aftermarket):thumb:

Cool. At what point do I start to worry about oil getting past the turbo seals? The reason I ask is I bought the car and about 100 miles later, the 14b blows. Still, a good excuse to get an E316G. I cleaned out the intake/ic/etc., but I know there's some oil in there still. I don't want to blame new problems on old burnoff...

That is helpful. The previous owner did a number on this car, so the factory oil pressure and coolant temp gauges are out. I managed to rewire the oil idiot light but I wanted more accuracy than oil pressure/no oil pressure...

When I was installing my Electric OPG, the ground wire came off when I was putting it back into the gauge pod. I turned the key and it jumped all the way to 100 psi! I thought to my self, obviously my fat hands pulled a wire off and I 2x checked it and it was my ground wire.

If the wire is connected to the gauge itself good then check the trail back down or wherever you put your ground.
