Hey guys, I just installed my wideband and when I turn the key over it reads 14.7. When I start the car it maxes out lean even though I know the car is running very fat at idle. As I give the car throttle, the gauge starts to move the the rich side. I pulled the gauge out to check the setting and its on the P0 setting. Is there something else I have to do to calibrate this thing or is it a bad sensor or something else? Any help much needed and appreciated. Thanks

14.7 is what your ECU always tries to achieve at a steady amount of gas or idle.

p0 is the default setting, so that should be correct. Mine comes on to the same thing when I turn the key on. Usually at idle you ecu will go back and forth from lean to rich (which is why the narrowband gauges have the pretty light show)

Do you have a datalogger so that you can verify that it's not lean?

i hate to still your thread but ive got problems. I ordered dsmlink and now im hearing i need a aem uego widband gauge. What i'm wondering is WHY??? I thought i could tell by my autometer air/fuel gauge if its lean or rich and then tune it with dsmlink. will this work or do i have to pay another $200 for a aem uego gauge?

You're not paying for just the gauge bro. its the whole wideband kit. thats needed, and i'm taking it you have a narrowband. They're pretty much useless, you can set up your wideband to log in link. But either way you're going too need one. Wont know when you have safe afr's(running rich/lean).

If i get it how hard would it be to install because ive been lookin and some say its hard some say it easy. Just plug the sensor where my autometer air fuel gauge is, ground a black wire, hook red up to power, but it seems like people are saying that theres a white and blue wire ill have to hook up somewhere else for dsmlink. where do the white and blue wires go?

sorry for asking i just want to know what kind of mess im getting into

Narrowband is like wideband but not adjustable. it will only show lean/stoic/rich and is usually just a light show that dances back and forth without telling you any real information then if your car is stoich (where you want it) or not

Just plug the sensor where my autometer air fuel gauge is...

EDIT. you mention the air/fuel gauge (narrowband)
all a air/fuel gauge is, is a narrowband sensor.

A narrowband is just a light show except at WOT. And even then it doesn't tell you how rich or lean you are. A wideband will give you an exact reading on your air to fuel ratio if it is calibrated right. It also allows for easier tuning if you are using something like a 3" GMMAF translator.

i feel like an idiot for asking that now. LOL also i do have an 3 inch gm maf translator. So basically just get the aem wideband and i'll be able to tune better right? but i still have to know how hard it'll be to wire it to the ecu

its easy to wire up the wideband setup......just like stated above the red wire hooked up to power and black to ground....i splice the white wire to the o2 sensor input in the ecu harness right behind the connector(which is a white wire also pin 4 i beleive)and turn the rotary knob behind the gauge to p4 because i dont have link yet and the ecu can only read up to 1v from the sensor...the blue serial wire i taped up and left hanging....but this is in a 1g.....so the ecu pinout are different
