Hi guys, I'm thinking about ordering a AEM UEGO wideband gauge for my 90 tsi and was wondering if I replace my stock 02 sensor up front with the new one that the gauge comes with?

Thanks

No, your stock O2 sensor stays because the ECU needs that in order to function correctly. You will have to weld in a new bung into your exhaust. It needs to be roughly 36" away from the source (HEAD). So, putting it right after the flex section before the cat/testpipe should work perfectly. :thumb:

Or you can get them $225 on ebay shipped within 2 days at your door.

Titan Motorsports is your best friend. BUng comes with kit and weld 36" away from turbo

You are going to have to weld in the new bung. Drill a hole and weld it on. I had a shop do mine for $35

You can do it yourself for free

From my experience, most muffler shops I have been to do have O2 sensor bungs. I am assuming there is just one main type, as when I asked if they had a bung, they did not ask for size/pitch; they just said they had it and sold it to me. However, if you have a stainless exhaust, a muffler shop will almost definately not have a stainless bung. Don't taint a good piece by welding anything other than stainless to it. :)

As far as the AEM one, I would actually recommend against it. I have had bad luck with mine when comparing the reading on it to the wideband used on WORKS' dyno. A friend of mine had a lot of inconsistancies in his wideband as well. I do not remember the details, but I would consider another manufacturer.

Hope that was of some help.

what would you recommend? has anyone else had problems with AEM?

any info is much appreciated

I had my AEM Wideband for about 2 months. It is very accurate and nice.

Unfortunately, my sensor went out. I think it was because of the fuel injector clean I had in there.. oops but I'll never know

So I bought a new one. Only to find out if you send AEM your sensor, they will replace it for free and ship it back for free.

Now I got 2 sensors in perfect condition and couldn't be happier

Never Had an issue and all the guy's run them around here and are very happy. It's going to be kinda like the ACT clutch debate. The most popular ones seem to have the odd problems but there's a lot more aem then any other (plx is close), so with the high demand you will have a higher trouble rate. From my experience with AEM is they have excellent costumer service and I wouldn't hesitate in the least to get one.:D

I use an AEM uego as well, but had a little different experience with it. My guage actually melted and fused the wire harness located in the back of the guage to the guage. It almost caught on fire. AEM has great service though. They replaced it after it went bad and it was out of warranty.

Quit lyin your from FT Myers and pretty rude at that

OK guys I'm having the bung welded in tomorrow and I have a quick question cause I will be hooking it up myself.

My question is do I have to hook the white, and blue wire up? I don't have DSM link if that helps any and I don't believe I have a rear 02 sensor.

I am going to be using a data logger if I ever receive my cable I need

Thanks again you guys for your help

You can actually replace your stock sensor with the Wideband. All you have to do is hook up the white wire from the AEM to the O2 sensor feed on you ECU. You just turn the adjustment screw on the back of the AEM so the white wire emulates the output of the stock sensor.

I've had my AEM uego for almost 1 year now. It has about 5k miles on it on with pump gas. No issues/problems. If you run a search on google you'll find more but this will do for now.

Its a test done a while ago but the AEM did good overall.

are you saying I can put my wideband 02 sensor, where my stock 02 sensor is up front?

Yes you can replace your original sensor with the AEM one. This is how my talon is setup. I removed the old sensor and put the new sensor in it's place. Then you take the white wire from the AEM unit and splice it into the O2 sensor feed right at the computer. You are replacing your old sensor with the new one. No need to weld in a second bung.

Problem with replacing the stock O2 by setting the UEGO to P4 (Nernst emulation) and outputting the analog to the O2 input on the ECU is you turn your wide band into a narrow band. A $200+ blinky light guage:notgood:
