Hey guys, so i bought an AEM wideband setup, and almost have it finished up, but i have run into something im a little confused about. Does the o2 sensor for the wideband talk to the cars ECU at all, or just to the gauge? im guessing i leave the front o2 sensor in, and just put the wideband sensor elsewhere?

Thanks for the help!

Aeryk.

The best [and most accurate] option is to weld a bung into your downpipe just before the flex section and put the AEM sensor there. The other option is to remove the rear o2 sensor and put the AEM unit in its place. This will more than likely trip the CEL however;you can get around it with a spark plug fouler, or by un-checking the box in DSMLink.

I originally had mine in the rear o2 but stopped being lazy and transferred it to my downpipe recently.

edit: Since you have link you could also put the AEM in your o2 housing and simulate narrowband however that has been shown to speed up wear on the sensor due to the intense heat our o2 housings see.

If you put it where the rear o2 should be, you will see a CEL being a 2G. I welded mine behind the flex section thats about 20 to 30 in from the front o2. However I recommend welding in front of the flex, because if your flex section leaks, you will get an incorrect reading.

my evo is not odb2 so i just took the stock sensor out, installed the new sensor for the UEGO, set the UEGO to P4 and connected the UEGO output signal to the stock ecu. Working like a treat.

If you could though mount it as those guys have said.

Get a bung welded into the downpipe BEFORE the cat if you have one

I welded in my bung right before the cat. I want to say the instructions say to put it 18 to 36 inches from the turbo. It should have come with the bung in the kit.

guys its not the physical location that im interested in, i need to know if i need to wire the sensor into the cars ecu, as well as into the gauge.

you can put the wideband sensor in the front o2 location and wire it to the ecu and use narrowband simulation in link. or you can put it and and wire it only to the gauge. OR you can put it in and wire it to the gauge, leave the front o2 and wire the outputs to an empty slot on the ecu for datalogging within link. you have several options it just depends on what you want to do personally

^+1. You really need Link to wire it to the ECU.

not really true the aem uego has the option to simulate narrow band as well.(so its fine to hook up to the rear o2 pin on the ecu since it a 1v signal as opposed to the 5v the wideband uses) I had mine set up that way for at least a year before i got link...

You will get a CEL for o2 heater malfunction unless you leave the old o2 plugged in or wire in a resistor.

Of course this is pretty useless as far as logging it as it behaves the same as the stock o2.
