I am currently working with a local clutch shop to have kevlar facing done to my worn street disc. The material they use is proven on much more demanding applications such as transport trucks, buses, and other heavy duty applications where lots of torque and heat is generated. I've worn down a street disc with a 2600lb PP in about 20,000 miles a lot of which included 5500RPM slip launches and no lift to shift techniques at the 28psi power level. They are saying the kevlar is practically unwearable as they've seen clutches with their facing outlast multiple engines in a lot of HD applications. The only requirement is a stiff PP if not it will slip, unlike ceramic where you could get away with a light PP. The 2600lb with a street disc holds 400ft/lb of TQ I believe so hopefully the kevlar disc as it is going to be a full face lining should hold the same but probably more.

Does anyone know what the ACT street disc thickness is brand new? They need to set the correct step on the flywheel to account for the thicker kevlar facing. Any thoughts or first hand experience with refacing/kevlar?

I dont like that Idea. Anyway Kevlar and heat dont get along to well so I would stay away from it with 11 second power for sure and the abuse you put it threw. I would look into a 6 puck sprung set up for the lighter weight it gives you better shifting at higher RPM. Look into the SPEC clutches and the southbend clutches as many others.

It is an experiment nevertheless and it's not costing me anything as I'm getting it for free as long as I provide feedback. All it's really going to cost me if it doesn't work out is some time and R&R of a tranny which I can do with my eyes closed :)

So does anyone have a brand new street disc laying around that they're willing to measure for me?

New street disc is .340
The kevlar does not grab like the street disc. If the street disc holds 400 the kevlar will hold around 350. The material does last longer. Maybe 100% longer than act street disc. Also shifts well cause its lighter. But you will loose that benifit if the disc is thicker to start. There are also two types of kevlar facing. one has a cork like backing. And the other is solid kevlar. Stay away from the cork style. The face can tear off on a hard launch cause the cork is weak.
