car has been driving perfect since I got, had a ACT clutch put in not too long before I got it. All the sudden on the way home last night it was really hard to get it into gears, and just as I pulled into my space, the pedal lost about 75% of it's stiffness. this morning the pedal is still the same, and I can't get it into any gears. any ideas on what to check?

the second gens are well known for eating the crappy master cylinder...so that's my guess, as a quick check look into the clutch master cylinder reservoir to see if it's low/empty if it is then pull the carpet up from right under the pedal assembly (where the edge of the carpet starts close to the firewall) and look/feel the carpet for brake fluid (oily) it usually leaks fluid from inside the car and runs down the firewall onto the carpet and surroundings.....if it's dry there then check under the car near the slave cylinder on the tranny (place newspaper under the area and pump the clutch a couple times) then see if it leaves fluid stains on the paper.....if the slave is bad satan sells a rebuild kit for around $40 and it's not a bad job....let us know what you find :dsm:

I recently had the exact same thing happen to my 95. My problem was a bad master cylinder. Once that was replaced, the slave went bad. After replacing the master and slave, the line between them need replacement. Anyways, to check if master is bad, feel the top of the pedal lever. It will be slippery if the master is bad. To see if it is the slave cylinder which is failing, simply look for leakage there. Goodluck, and hopefully you don't need to replace all i needed to. By the way, how many miles are on it?

107k miles on it, I found some wetness on the carpet, so I think its the master, the slave looks fine. I'll check it later when its not so cold outside

thanks for the heads up guys!

pulled the clutch master cylinder, it looks like it leaked pretty bad out the back (in car side) so I'll order a new one this friday, looks like another 2 weeks without my car....yay mitsubishi!

:barf:

I know that oriley's sells the rebuild kit for the 1g for like 18 bucks.

all you do is pull out the piston and spring and put the new one in if the cylinder walls don't look scarred it is probably just the seal.

30 min job and 20 bucks!!!

Did yall know on the 1g the slave can be rebuild without taking it off the car.....

do they have a website? I searched online for a rebuild kit, and didn't find one.

The CLUTCH master cylinder cases the leak onto the carpet. I my knowledge, the master cylinder will not leak into the cabin. The damn slave goes without warning.. which sucks and makes a big mess.

It takes about 20 min to install and same amount to adjust (depending how many times you have to stop and adjust it).

My master cylinder failed last year too. I never had this problem before with any car but it seems to be a common problem on 2G's.:thumbdown

If your going to do the master, do the slave as well. Mine went out in the middle of last winter when it was 10 degrees outside. That was fun:thumbdown

you really think the slave is necessary right now? I'm kinda strapped for cash at the moment. it's not that big of a deal to bleed the clutch again.

When mine went out totally, it took about 2 miles for the clutch to take a shit and make it nearly impossible to get it home.
