Edmonton,
Hey all,

I was driving to the mall yesterday and notice shifting was a little bit harder than normal. Griding trying to get into gears etc. Anyways the clutch starts feeling really funny, like if i pressed it, it would drop down(the pedal) really fast then be hard to get back up / get the car in gear. I get to a stop, put the car in neutral, and then go to push the clutch in, and with like no pressure the pedal drops to the floor and is stuck, i had to pry it up with my hand and it wont go in gear at all. i ended up having to push my car into a parking lot and now it's stuck there.

What's going on did i just break a cable or something??? Thanks in advance

Check and make sure all your bell housing to motor bolts are tight ive had those come loose on me before and it was doing the same thing. Also check to see if your shifter linkage cable bracket is loose.

Ebay, the seller is gripforce-clutches.

They sell master AND slave shipped to your door for $75. I have personal experience with them and their product, they ship very fast, and product works great.

As for labor, it is pretty straight forward.

You can do it yourself:

Good luck.

wow, so are you guys pretty positive that this is the problem? thanks for the replies. My car is nickle and diming me to death.

The dilemma here is that i hve my car parked at the mall and really cant afford a tow right now. i think driving it is totally impossible too

my car did this also...changing them both out isnt hard work at all...if anything tho, changing out the master cyl. is better with little hands LOL

Its much easier to do the master on the 1g. Its not hidden so it doesnt require tiny hands. LOL

Its the slave cylinder. Ill put money on it. Go to oreilys and spend 26 bucks for one and look online on how to do it. Its a hour job, I did it and I had never done anything of the sort before

Kind of hard to know whether or not it is the slave, master, or rubber line to the slave without looking at it huh. They would all have the same result.

Same thing happened to me but when i was driving and my pedal went to the floor my shoe was covered in brake fluid. check the reservoir see if you have any fluid or not. then just check for leaks all around. if need be replace master and slave cylinders, very easy job just make sure you get all the air out when bleeding. also adjust the rod on the master cylinder jacks transmissions has a really good video on how to do it.

I would check your fluid level in the master cylinder and bleed the system, while checking for leaks before buying any parts. You might just save yourself some $. The parts aren't that expensive, and they aren't too hard to put in if you have someone to assist in the bleeding part, but it sounds like your budget is limited. So I would definitely check/try those two things first.

Just replace the slave and call it a day. It takes less than 10 min to remove and install it might take awhile to bleed it. Make sure you bleed it at least 7 times just to make sure.

Kind of silly to just start replacing parts without diagnosing the problem. It could be the master, slave, rubber hose, or even a damaged pressure plate.

I had the same problem. I was going down the road one night and my clutch went soft, wouldnt shift into gear or anything. Turns out, the line that feeds the fluid to the slave cylinder was damaged right where it bolted down on the slave cylinder. Every time I pushed the clutch pedal, fluid would shoot out, and it would even leak while the car was sitting. Fixed it the next morning.

So, make sure the fluid isn't leaking out of the slave cylinder, and make sure the washers around the slave cylinder are good too. I've had warped ones and it would spray the fluid out of it every time I engaged the clutch.

It sounds like it's either the line, or the slave cylinder. Check for fluid leaking, and have someone engage the clutch while looking examining the slave cylinder, just to make sure it isn't spraying all over the place. Good luck.
