My freon for the AC is leaking and at this moment, my engine is out of the cars. The AC will stay cold for one day. I thoguht that it will be best to check for leaks at this point since I can see everything. Is it possible to check for leaks with the dye and black light if I hook the compressor back and put in the dye? Does the compressor have to be operating in order to get the freon to the high side?
Are there other simpler method to check for leaks?

Thanks in advance.

The system has to be pressurized and circulating to properly check for leaks, so it would be best to have the compressor operating while you check.

Will it be worth it to fabricate a fitting for the low-side and compress it with air to check for leaks? Does the ac system have to be in the liquid state for this test to work?

I suppose you could do that, the AC machines put the system into a vacuum to check for leaks after all. I don't know how much pressure would be safe to use though.

Thank you. I will try that with a regulated air compressor.:thumb:

Using compressed air will introduce moisture into the system, destroying the reciever drier. Water inside your AC lines and components will cause it to self destruct from the inside out once youre running again . Dye and a black light work great, the dye is injected into the low side (liquid) and needs to be circulated for a while before its effective. Best bet is to look for dirty spots on the AC components and replace o-rings/seals there

Luckily I have not done the compressed air method yet. I will replace the o-rings of the high side and low side lines that mates up to the compressor and use the dye method once the engine is back together.

Thanks
