Ok, so I looked down at my mile counter and aw-and-behold, im about 800 miles away from hitting the 200k mark:shhh:...so my question is.
What now? What should be something i should do and or look out for? I do know i mite have a valve seal leak ( meduim size white puff of smoke out the exhaust right after full boost ). But other than that I have replaced the turbo recently ( two weeks ago ) and the timing belt/assembly about 1500-3000 miles ago.

Thanks, Dustin

p.s., I think im in the right thread, i didnt find anywhere else i could post this :D

200k is just a number, replace what needs replacing (valve seals), and if it ain't broke keep driving it!

I just hit 220k, under 7% leakage and over 145 compression! stock bottom end, still running strong! Good seeing other high mileage dsm's around here!

Thanks I accually planed on using my friends this weekend but thanks for the remind. I will post my readings to let you know, also how hard is it to take the head off? Im a college student so would i be better off taking it home to my dads or taking it to ToySpeed in tulsa,ok. which is a really good tunning shop that does engine work as well.

Not trying to be an a-hole but the mile counter is called an odometer. Just FYI. +1 on the compression test.
As you also noticed I put aw-and-behold, which is accually a meaningless combination of words. LOL jk but yes i know that it is a odometer I was just being facetious, :thumb:

...approaching 200k ... wow, just barely broke in .... !

I've seen 300k on DSM's and still running with no problems .. I saw a 1991 1.8 DSM out in a yard this summer that had over 500k on the odo, and you can tell that thing definitely served it's purpose, yet the body was still straight!

I have a little 1.8 base Eclipse for a DD and it rolled over 200k this spring (my Laser has 187K, but have a JDM VR4 motor under the hood, thus not the original motor, so I can't be credited as such)... I add a quart every 1000 miles, valve seals are thinking on being tired (they were changed back at 123k miles), I've done cam and both main seals an full belt and wp a couple of years ago.

True, keep the oil and all filters changed on a regular basis, keep driving sane, and do the prevent maintenance - just hope some goon feels that you shouldn't have that many miles on your ride when he blows the red light due to his stupidity!

Good luck-DSM

Im about 10k away from 200k. I still have 160 compression in all 4 on a dry test.

HG is pretty easy. Valve seals ###### have a shop do

My numbers are similar. Intend to keep em that way. 7% leakage, 177-180 compression (8.5 pistons) and 165k. I've only put 5k on her since I got her, but she isn't a daily. Still almost no compression lost in 165k I am hoping they are all still above 175 at 200k

ok, so im going to do a compresion test and see, but im pretty sure ither the HG or valve seals have a leak, because right after i WOT and get out of boost big puff of white smoke blows out the butt end of her. should i just have a shop do both at the same time??

Also im only about 800 miles away from 200k ^ LOL

I would suggest inspecting all of the coolant lines and replacing the worn ones. Personally, I'd just replace them all because they're cheap and easy to replace. I don't know when you've last replaced your accessory belts but check them out too.

Did no one here notice that he said a puff of WHITE smoke after boost and then said he thought it was a valve seal??? When the heck did oil become a white puff of smoke? Try checking compression, cause a WHITE puff of smoke is coolant and not oil. OIL is BLUE. If your on a stock turbo I would suggest pulling your intake pipe off the turbo and check for shaft play. Cause if your boosting and then getting white smoke, u may have put a bad turbo on and its squirting a lil bit of coolant into your system. Check compression, if you have a big difference in any 2 adjacent cylinders you may have a BHG. If your replacing a HG I would suggest getting studs and putting those in as they are much better than bolts. Biggest pain in the ass in my own history with DSM's is doing the timing belt with the engine in the car.

I recently got a 92 w 229k miles. mostly all original, even the clutch. Finally blew the head gasket. Other then that most all has been reliable. Make sure all maintanance is kept up.
I'm thinkin the smoke may not be the valve seals.

Thanks, but i did replace the turbo about two weeks ago with one that had no shaft play, becasue that indeed was what i thought it was, also i have no coolaint in my oil or visa virsa so it has to be the HG or valve seals right? also what is BHG? and i guess i should have mentioned that all the emissons are removed idk if that will cause white smoke (live in OK), and thanks for the headsup on studs i forgot about those, also i just had the timing belt/whole assemble replaced about 1500-2000, miles ago so it is good?

Whats do you think it is then? LOL
any comment on what it is will help
