Basically, I finally got everything together and I'm trying to get a tune on the car. Important mods are a Walbro 255, AFPR, 660s, 2g MAF, 18g, Front mount, and Comp 200s. I am tuning with a logger, AFC II, and a DsmChip. Chip settings are as follows:
1992 Laser RS AWD
Manual Transmission
7500 RPM Rev Limit
950 RPM Idle
No Fuel Cut
Octane Reset
Denso 660cc Injectors
43psi Base Fuel Pressure
Knock Sum Boost Gauge
11.7:1 Air/Fuel Ratio
19 Degrees Timing Advance (for 93 or 94 pump)
2G MAS
No Airflow Cap
 
Basically, my AFC should be zeroed out which was what I did when we first started the tune. The car pulled pretty decent but not like it should be. I know you can't use them but according to my narrowband, at WOT, I was running lean instead of it pegging into the rich side. This is where we started richening up the AFC from 3000 up to 7400. The more we richened it up, the faster the car felt. We finally richened it up 45-50% and the car felt like it was suppose to. I know this isn't right so I'm trying to figure out why.

I have a few logs that I did tonight at 19psi. I did them with it zeroed out, richened up 30%, and then richened up 50%. I just can't get the logs up here in a neat order. I've got the logs straight in Excel and have them saved as Web Pages but I can't get them to show up on the site.
 
Any idea as to what would cause me to run lean like that and why I should be adding that much fuel on the AFC? I know something isn't right but I haven't figured out what. :(

I guess I could add that according to the AFCII, I was flowing 2162hz of air, which was actually lower then when me and my buddy were tuning a couple weeks ago. I believe we were upwards of 2300 or so, if that matters.

I know the chip settings are e little aggressive, but what's the knock reading on the stock boost gauge? That alone is a valuable tuning tool and will tell you if you have fuel issues. Now with a 255 on those 660's, you have plnty of supply, but maybe there's a volume problem at the rail. What's your fuel pressure and have you tried bumping it up? Barring that, have you tried adding octane to the mix to see if performance increases.

Knock will tell you just about everything!

Andy, according to my logs, I'm getting a decent amoutn of knock up top.

- With the AFC zeroed out and in 4th gear, I'm seeing between 12 and 25 counts of knock with my o2sin the range of .68, .76, and .64. That tells me that I am very lean.

- With me adding 30% of fuel and in 3rd gear, I see knock at 6500rpm which a .80 o2 and then when in 4th gear, I see 3-6 counts of knock from 5400 to 6k. I didn't take it above 6k.

- With me adding 50% of fuel and in 3rd gear, I'm seeing about 3 counts of knock from 4500-6200 with .84-.80 (o2s). As soon as I hit 6300, it jumps to 7 counts of knock with o2s at .78. In 4th gear, I'm getting between 9 and 12 counts of knock from 6400-7100 with .78-.76 o2s.

I know it's a little confusing to read so if someone could help me get my logs up, it would make it much easier.
 
I haven't tried any type of octane booster or a higher octane of fuel. My fuel pressure is set to 43psi, as per my chip.

I can't get traction at the top of 1st, 2nd, sometimes 3rd gear now. Maybe it was just my car, But I noticed a totally different car.

Yeah I have an AFPR. I had the chip set-up to 43psi which is what I have it set to with the vacuum line off. It's a 1:1 rising regulator as well.
 
Stock fuel pressure is 37 psi in a 1g.

Don't look at 02 volts they are useless. Every car is different, I've seen cars that were .98 at wot and the A/F was in the 12's, my car always sits around .78-.82 at wot and the A/F is in the high 10's. So it's not very accurate to go by the O2 volts.

Verify with keydiver that the chip is the correct one. Check for boost leaks, check for pre turbo vacuum leaks, and make sure that fuel pressure is rising with boost.
 
It doesn't matter about 1g stock pressure, I had Keydiver set base pressure to 43psi. It is the correct chip and we've gone back and forth about it. There are NO vaccum leaks, all new lines amd most are eliminated. There are NO boost leaks and my fuel pressure regulator is a 1:1. With 20psi in the system (for a boost leak test), I was seeing 63psi (43 + 20).
 
You said that you added about 30% more fuel. Did you try just adding 2% or 3% more, or did you just bump it up to 30%? What kind of timing advance are you seeing between 4000-7500. It would really be helpful to see a log.

When we first started the tune, we added a little bit of fuel but then we decided to add a ton of it and the car felt insanely faster.

With all of my logs, I'm seeing between 15 and 18* of timing. It varies a little bit and around 6800, I see about 11* but everywhere else it looks okay.

I have logs but I couldn't get them to show up on the forum. I have them saved in a CSV file and also saved as a web page. I just can't get it to show up in a neat format. Any help with that?

EDIT: hm, didn't seem to work. Anyone be able to post my logs up if I sent them to you? I definitely want to get these up.
 
the 1st logged is the AFC zeroed out (3rd and 4th gear pull). The 2nd log is a 3rd and 4th gear pull adding 30% of fuel, and the 3rd log is a 3rd and 4th gear pull adding 50% on the AFC.

Thanks Rob.. that's what I ended up with to. I was just trying to get it so it shows up all nice and neat. Ah well..
 
What was the boost level during those runs? What octane fuel are you using? I don't see anything jumping out at me that would indicate a problem. Do you have access to a wideband?

Boost was 19psi. I'm running Sunoco 93 but I usually run 94. I might have access to a wideband and I'm hoping to use it this weekend if I do.

The problem is all the knock I'm getting and how much fuel I'm adding. There should be no reason to add that amount of fuel. With it zeroed out the car doesn't feel anything like it does when the fuel is added. The difference is night and day. My timing looks good almost all the way across the board but the knock isn't. It almost looks like I knock less when I add 30% of fuel instead of 50%.
 
I think getting a wideband on the car will help clear some things up. After adding that much fuel the car should run like ass and it doesn't so something is off. What are your fuel trims?

My low is like 101-102% and off the top of my head my mids are highs are 106-110%. I can get an exact figure later but either way, my trims are still lean. WTF

I'm definitely going to try and get a wideband hooked up to it but I'm also going to try another ECU, that isn't chipped and see if I can come up with something different. I've talked to Jeff (at Keydiver) and the chip looks fine according to him but I have a feeling my problem is lying in there. :sosad:

I hate to make assumptions in situations like this but I was leaning towards the chip or a failing fuel pump.

I definitely agree with you there. Is there a way to test the fuel pump? Or a way to determine if it's good or bad? I'm going to try a new ECU tomorrow and see if somehow I can get a decent tune on it, which may be a little difficult tuning the 660s. It should at least give me an idea of what it is.

Hooking up a wideband would be a pretty good indicator of how the fuel pump is performing.

You should still be able to get a pretty decent tune with 660's and no chip.
