A/T Shift Firmness Controller

I just discovered this A/T boost controller, that controls the shift firmness of the automatic transmission...

It obviasly is just a box w/ 2 wires and selectable resistors.
To me, not worth 175$...

Just curious if anyones knows what resistors are in the box and for what shift firmness.

I basically want only the most drivable one, the that helps shifting the most but you can keep it on that level 100% daily driving.
 
Looks like no one has any clue what resistance to use...
I have done some research and on diesel trucks the resistors start anywhere from
26 to 5.7 ohms... Thats a wide range and I don't want to guess and mess something up.
I have no clue how a automatic tranny works nor do I care to find out.

So I'll probably just end up grittin my teeth and buyin this thing.

One question though....
Is it as good as the translab shift kit?
Whats the differences.... should I get both? or is the controller good by itself?
 
I had a friend of mine make me one for only $50. It really shifts hard with it. I'm able to chirp 2nd gear with just a s16g, brake boosting about 10psi. I won't be able to compare how it shifts with a translab shift kit until I install my kit this week.

What resistors did he use?? I don't want anything dramatic for racing purposes only.
I just want overall best shift for regular driving and street racing.

I've never messed with the tranny but it seems to be not too hard ...?
 
I've never taken it apart to see what resistors he used, but it is a pretty dramatic shift. I had one of these on a Firebird I used to own and all three settings were more than you need for daily driving. I only use mine when I race. IMO stock shifting is fine for daily driving. If you want crisp shifts all the time, get a translab shift kit. It sure is cheaper and probably better for the life of your transmission.
 
The shift kit is pretty simple. There is a site with step-by-step documentation of the install. Since the valve body is a contained unit, it makes life easier as you can take it inside and work on it. From my expirience, the Auto Trannys are much easier to work with/on in a DSM. It is even easier to rebuild the auto tranny then the manual tranny.... Wierd

Anyway, I garutee that you will be happy with the shift kit. My A/T temps even went down slightly from installing it. Also, while your in there, you might as well flush the tranny fluid, and put a new filter in. A new pan gasket wouldn't be a bad Idea either.
 
I'll get the Translab kit and change the fluid, filter and gasket.
Sounds like a better deal to me.
