First off, I do have a MAFT so I can vent my BOV properly. Second, I guess it was the ricer in me or just the fact that I was getting sick of my BOV always sounding the same that made me try something new. So I started by drilling two 1/4" holes in the BOV. I didn't notice a big change in the sound except for the fact that it lost a little bit if the whistle sound. This was on my FWD(vented) with the MAFT. So then I though I would try it on my AWD w/o the MAFT while recirculated like stock. I could barely hear the BOV, but it wouldn't die or anything like it would have if it would have been straight up vented to the atmosphere. So then I drilled 6 more holes and tryed it on both cars again. Suprisingly, the AWD w/o the MAFT didnt not die after letting off the gas like it would have when just vented.... It got a little close though, but I dont think it would have if I had less holes drilled. But I could hear the BOV pretty decent..nothing like straight up venting, but you can definitely hear it inside the car. (So that is a total of 8 holes...if you don't have a MAFT and planned on doing this, I would probably only do 3 or 4) Now I plan to drill a few more hole if at all possible to see if I can get a nice sound out of the stock 1G BOV with the MAFT. I understand that without the MAFT your car will still not being running correctly with these holes drilled, that is why I do not recommend it. BUT, If your going to vent anyways or just need a little sound, this should not hurt you engine ASMUCH as it would if the BOV was completly vented. Ok, newbies will love me, wisemen will hate me, I just thought I would throw it out to see what people thought. Also, you cannot drill where hole from the bottom of the BOV goes to the top diaphram Or anywhere in the top diaphram for that matter.

How in the world does this change the fact that it's still venting?

Unmetered air is unmetered air. Once the diaphragm closes again, the air is going somewhere, and no matter what, it's not back into your intake. I really fail to see the point of this. Sound? You'd of been better off buying a used aftermarket BOV for the sound.

Edit : After re-reading, I see that this went back on a car that was recirculated. It's still a ridiculous idea, though.

Well after adding some more holes, it actually made the BOV a little quieter. But it seems to react faster. Maybe its just me. I know that it is still unmetered air and not proper for a car without the MAFT... like I stated in the orgional post.
