Ok, well before I bought my car I had went and looked at a car from a guy who is apparently on these forums. I had only heard of this site at that time so didnt pay much attention. As he was showing me the car he had what I now know is a stutterbox. I just needs some things clarified about them if you guys dont mind.

A stutterbox will hold up your rpms for a better launch right? Are you able to adjust how high the limit is? In all of the forums with people wanting to boost from a stop I always hear its a bad idea to put strain on the t belt and other various things. Would a stutter box be doing the same thing? Can you get the boost to spool pretty high? Would I burn through my tranny pretty quick? :notgood: Plus it says there is a 2 step rev limiter for the dsm chip which works with the speed sensor. That wouldnt work on my 1g right? I would need to get a step 3 Im guessing.

And if I understand right, theres three ways to get the stutterbox option, which is either a dsmlink, dsmchip, or msd ignition. The guy had a stage 3 dsmchip. Would you guys reccomend the dsmchip? It sounds pretty straight foward, I just buy the chip and have someone install it and Im good to go right? Would everything already be activated once I put it in my car? I still need an afc and a logger right? Also what kind of supporting modifications would I need in able to run a stage three chip? Thanks a lot, I tried searching but couldnt find anything too specific. :sosad:

dsmlink is probably your best bet... you can do quite a bit with it and log and everything.

its worth getting it over just a chip or something..

after you buy the afc and everything you mise well have just bought a dsmlink for $500 :)

Yup thats pretty much the same conclusion I was comming to...I guess dsmlink really is all that and a bag of chips. :thumb: But either way, is the stutter box any different than reving the engine by myself?

No, not really different. The stutterbox is a little easier in my opinion because you just keep the pedal to the metal. Otherwise you're going to hold the gas down to a particular rpm and then have to floor it when launching, right?

To use the stutterbox feature with a DSMchip is a bit more involved than installing the chip. Once it's in, you also have to wire the clutch safety switch to the ecu harness(instructions are provided). It's not a difficult procedure other than having to work upside-down in a cramped space and I've found their stutterbox to work quite well. I've been able to launch with the turbo already spooling at around 5 psi. Additionally, DSMchips recently updated their codes so you do have the option of ordering a chip with a selectable stutterbox with rev limits from 4500 - 5500 (or whatever range and steps you specify). There will be no strain on the timing belt from using the stutter box. You'll put as much strain holding the engine at the stutterbox rev's as you would running the engine to redline, and you will not burn your transmission. The clutch is a different story if it's still stock.

The clutch mod for dsmlink is for the no lift to shift. The stutterbox feature works fine without the mod being done.
