Hey guys and gals. So I finally sold the tein coils from my Camry. So I have a little extra money. I was thinking of getting a short ram intake. The reason I would get a short ram is becuz I'm doing the turbo swap this year and the cold air piping would go where my intercooler is gonna go. The intake system that I found on ebay is for the non-turbo Talon. I'm not sure how the intercooler kits work for the talons but can I have both an intake and the Intercooler? If so, if I get the N/T intake, will it work with the turbo motor? I'd assume so since the heads are the same and most likely the intake manifolds also
 
in all reality what does a cold air intake do? ive learned that once i saw REAL dyno nubers on my old civic. i actully lost power by putting a AEM intake on my car. once i went back to stock i had more power. your best bet for that 1g maf is to buy a k&n filter for it. if you are going to turbo it i have a 1g maf and intake pipe with a k&n filter on it you could have for 15 bucks + shipping.
 
After you turbo the car the intake is going to run off of the turbo. The intake you put on there though will probably work like an upper intercooler pipe. Just connect the rest of the piping. Almost everything is the same between the na 4g63 and turbo 4g63 except the intake cam, the injectors, the throttle body (which is way bigger than the turbo tb), and you have no knock sensor bung.

so will the n/t intake fit onto the stock turbo or any other turbo for that matter or will i be required to get a turbo intake
 
You will have to take the intake off when you turbo it. That will be the easiest thing to do. You can't keep it on because the route the air travels from the turbo to the intake manifold is continuous, meaning there aren't any gaps. You would have to convert your intake to an upper intercooler pipe, which would require cutting and welding, or just take your intake off and get a complete upper intercooler pipe. I get the feeling you don't have a solid grasp on how turbo engines work, i suggest doing a little more research.
 
The short ram intake pipe will give you no advantage over the stock air snorkel.

A cold air intake on a non-turbo 1G will do nothing unless you're bold enough to move the whole air filter / MAS / aircan assembly out of the engine bay. DON'T do this unless your car never sees rain.


Save your money and wait until you're ready to turbo the car, then buy the right piping for your application.
 
but correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't an intake run off of the turbo itself as the intercooler runs of the intake manifold?
 
On a forced induction system, the airflow would go:

Air filter > Intake pipe > Turbocharger > Lower intercooler pipe > Intercooler > Upper intercooler pipe > Throttle body > Intake manifold > Cylinder head.


On a non-turbo, the aiflow would go:

Air filter > Intake pipe > Throttle body > Intake manifold > Cylinder head.
