Need a lil advice please

alright i am looking into this 92 gsx 6/4 bolt and everything is stock but the water pump, and a 3 angle valve job, so does anyone else think that this engine was ever overheated and may have caused internal damage therfore being a bad buy?

please I am pritty new to this being 15 yrs old and racing wit my bro im still a newb but, im getting there... please reply back thanks

1. If it looks like it's been beat on, don't buy it. DSM's that have lived an abused life (original timing belt after 90K miles, infrequent oil changes, hot shutdowns instead of letting the engine idle for at least 1 minute after heavy driving, boosting on a cold engine, all of the usual stupid stuff) are destined to be parted out. I made that mistake before.

2. Do a compression test. That's the quickest way to tell if the engine is in good health. Standard readings should be 155-165 psi, the service limit is 120 psi, and there should be no more than a 14 psi difference between cylinders. Healthy engines have healthy numbers.

3. Overheating shouldn't cause significant damage provided the owner didn't do something stupid like go 30 miles on an overheated engine. If he has that 3-angle valve job done, chances are he blew the head gasket when he overheated it and while the head was off, he sent it out to get worked on. But the best way to tell if the motor is still good is the compression test (compression testers are $20 at AutoZone).

If you cannot physically touch the car and see for yourself what condition it is in, do not buy the car, period.
