This is my first 4g63 and I'm doing the timing/replacing the valves. What are good places to get parts that isn't over priced. Also on my vr4 I had I had cam lockers does anyone make them for this engine?

First.... WhY are you replacing the valves? Timing belt break and bend them?

For head parts for starters Engine Parts Network, Inc He has a Ebay store as well if you look around under engnbldr . Great parts and people can't go wrong.

A good sorce for OEM parts like T-belts etc is EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts

And here are some Timing belt tools

awesome and thank you :thumb:

Paid almost nothing for the car, knew it had bad timing. Well once I got to taking it apart I noticed the guy put the manual tensioner on backwards so yea was never tensioned correctly. Got the head off and he bent all intake valves and hair line cracked the guides. But some how managed to not damage the pistons or the exhaust valve side LOL. Got my head in the machine shop and doing the balance shaft eliminator, waiting on the parts for that from dsm graveyard.

I have timing problem.Brand new gates timing belt. It's in time but my belt when it spins it gets
Tight and lose no it can't be right.what could be the problem?Help tryed everything.

you sure your hydraulic tensioner is keeping constant pressure? Did you put enough pressure to the manual tensioner? Also using the correct timing tools makes a hell of a difference, i just ordered mine alone with some cam lockers :).

Well first of all thank you for the info. I used the machine shop a few years back and they did great work so I'm hoping its all good LOL. As for DSM graveyard its been a week and still not shipped...Just can't wait to get this thing running. Already got the turbo harness and computer for my next year project. Going to buy another engine and build it from the block up...benefits of being divorced no more nagging wife LOL.

What the hell is a "cam locker" on a 420a?

Well its not a 420a so reading the post would be appreciated. For the 4g63 its this STM: AMS 4G63 CAM GEAR ALIGNMENT TOOL | EVO VIII-IX | 90-99 DSM locks the cams in place for when you do your timing.

Good luck with the grave yard . VFAQ has a good right up for timing job as well as youtube the actual manufacturer video.

Just found VFAQ the other day and love it. Timing on this motor seems a heck of alot easier than my VR4 was...never again LOL :banghead:

Must have been the DOHC 6G72 using just one long belt to run over all of them cam sprockets and water pump.

Yet, with bulldog clips to hold the belt in place over the four cam sprockets, one think it wouldn't be too much different than doing a 4G63 with just two cam sprockets, being still with just one adjuster.. True, sideways motors are alway a PITA when doing belts and similar when still in the vehicle.
