A Couple Questions about Cam and Crank Sensors

I'm having issues with my '95 gsx. There is no spark on cylinders 2 & 3. The coil packs are good, and the transistor pack is good. It is only receiving half of the spark signal.

My questions are this:
is there a way to test the cam sensor, and the crank sensor while they are installed on the car? maybe a way to measure something while it's cranking... I don't know... The cam sensor is brand new but the crank sensor is old.

Also, the thin aluminum plate behind the crank pulley that is used with the crank sensor was bent a little bit while doing the timing belt replacement and I'm curious if it has to be perfect. I've straightened it out about as good as you can, but I'm worried that it may be a little wavy or something that i can't tell that may be throwing it off.

What part do the crank/cam sensors play in the coil packs receiving their signal to spark?

Is this even a correct train of thought?

The Cam and crank sensors each send the ECM a singal. The ECM uses those and a few other variables to determine when the spark should occur. The ECM then distributes the spark signals to the transistor pack.
Once the transistor pack is told what to do, it basically controls the coil packs and that is essentially where the coil packs get their signal to fire... Sound right?
 
How did you test the transistor? I had that exact same problem when my transistor died and a replacement fixed it.

Also the trigger plate for the crank angle sensor runs with a very close tolerance to the sensor itself. If it was bent to the point of hitting, it would be making a very audible noise when it was cranked over.
 
I tested the transistor pack with a D-cell battery and a digital multimeter.

I got the procedure from my service manual. If there were any DSMs where I lived, I'd have just went and grabbed the parts off of junk cars, but to get any extra stuff I'd have to buy new... That's a little too much money to be throwing at the car without knowing exactly what was the problem.
 
okay i have the same problem except it is cylinders 1 and 4 that have no spark. wtf is going on here. IT IS NOT THE COIL PACK!!!! i tried swapping out the other coil pack from my gsx and the same exact problem. need help asapppppp
 
it is your crank angle sensor. When i pull that plug i get no spark to 1 and 4. Try unplugging your cam angle and crank angle sensors and see what changes there are. When i unplug my cam angle sensor i have no change for me (no spark on cylinders 2 and 3). So i believe that the crank angle controls cylinders 1 and 4.
