Do I really need my Air conditioner

do you gain anything if you remove it. cause i dont want it

ya for school and work but when i did drive it in the summer i didn't use it

I know I have to have it here in Louisiana. Depends on where you live and how hot it is. When mine went out, before I fixed it, I had cut the A/C belt and noticed some more power. It wasn't worth it though. In the rain the windows would fog up really bad and it was an accident waiting to happen, so I fixed it. My .02

My A/C has to be recharged. And I don't know how much it is to recharge it.

I like having A/C when it's 90*+ out and I have to go to a work meeting in my nice dress clothes / suit. Again though, this is my DD and I do use it for work.

Ya the warmest weather we get here is between 30C to 35C and I like having my windows down. So I might get rid of it, if i gain space under the hood and if I gain more power.

i got rid of mine for the fact that it give you more room to work on stuff and it weighs quite a bit with the front rad for the ac the ac pump and all the lines and stuff also gives a little more flow to the radiator since there isnt anything in front of it anymore except the little oil cooler id say take it out seeing as how you said you dont use it anyway

Thanks Man

it only depends on you if you want to have a comfortable ride in hot summer days ....... :DD

but most of us,i think 98% are driving without it. It makes less load on the engine.

I removed mine on my GSX and wish i hadn't.. I kept it on my gst.

Like said above it does reduce a BIT of load on the engine. Probly wieghs about 5 lbs too. I got rid of it on my GSX(Project car) but kept it on my 92 Talon becuase it's my DD. Is this car your DD?

your going to have to get a conversion kit since it has r-12 but you can get all that stuff at any auto parts store.

Well unfortunately for me id had to dispose of it to make room for my downpipe. I had no choice and i just looked at it as something else that could go wrong, but if i had to sit in traffic alot wouldnt have found a way to keep it.

Personal Preferance... You gain a lot of space behind the engine to work on your car. And all the other junk that goes along with it like all the lines and condenser in front of the radiator. I took mine out since it didn't work any longer.

I agree with 98GSXextream07 here in louisiana it's a nescity. But up north its not Espceially in Canada. I bought a few No A/C cars from up north (Ohio/Colorado) and brought them down here NEVER again LOL. Up there there was no need for it though.

ditch it. One less belt to break, one less piece in front of your radiator, getting rid of the AC lines in the engine bay is nice too. It will make a front mount install possible/that much easier too.

i argue with my brother about this a lot. i hate having the windows down and i sweat balls even with them down anyway, and the only time the ac takes any power is when you have it on, and even then it takes a whole of like 5 hp. if its off its just a free spinning pulley that doesnt take any power away. yes you would gain a little room and less weight but it helps defrost windows as stated earlier. most cars automatically turn the a/c on with the defrost. my 300zx always has the a/c on if the auto climate control is on unless i specifically turn off the a/c. i dont really notice much difference in power between on and off even on that car. my nt talon i used to have i didnt notice either.

Im stuck in the same place, i live in michigan and last summer i never used it. Always had my windows down, and now when i installed my fmic this winter i hit the ac condenser, so i would need to replace it. So i think im just pulling it out.

No, get rid of it now, it costs you in power and gas to both spin the compressor and carry that extra weight. Just roll down your windows and drive fast (while obeying speed limits :p )

Getting rid of the A/C and all of it's components really clean up the engine bay on a 1G. It also gets rid of the condenser, opening a good bit of additional airflow to the radiator.

The only downside to removing a working A/C system (even if you never turn on the A/C) is you don't get the benefit of having the compressor run while your defroster is on, which aids in drying the air that comes out of the defrost duct and blows on the windsheild to clear heavy fogging quickly. Of course, if your system is discharged you haven't been using this feature for a while.

Removing all of the A/C components from a 1G saves roughly 40-45lbs.
