Hey all this is related to the 420a.

I've read that one should remove 2 bolts from the alternator to adjust it to take the belt off. I can not reach those damn bolts for the life of me. is it better to go from the bottom or the top?

Also for the a/c unit what bolts do i remove to take that belt off. I've been reading on neon forums but they don't have that issue because they have more room in the bay when it comes to the alternator. Thanks for the help. ( i also bought a manual and i does not even mention the removal of the a/c belt)

I would try from the bottom should be easier. From under the car you should see what bolt goes through the bracket that allows the a/c compressor to pivot. Also a small 12 mm wrench usually works the easiest for altenator bolts.

I'm having the same issue, attempting to pull out my alternator on my 98' gst. I bought it awhile back and now it needs to be replaced, seems every bolt under the car is rusted and never been touched :/

For rust just use some PB Blaster. As everyone else said, use 12mm wrenches. I got a set of socketing wrenches after having so much trouble with the alternator on my 1g. Now, I've found a million uses for them.
