I have searched and found alot of information about 1g's base timing. The thing is I have a 99 GSX and I just want to verify base timing. Can I just check the timing marks to see if they line up or do I need to get a timing light. The problem I believe is the 99's do not have the single pin connector to ground ? At least this is what I have read. What is the procedure to check this?

unhook your injectors and coils (so you wont flood the car and have an igniting issue) and have someone turn the car over for a couple seconds while you shoot your timing marks with a light. Don't let anyone on here tell you that a 2gb base timing can't be checked or done, because it can. :thumb:

Cool Now I just need to find a timing light! Oh and a friend :). Can I ask how could base timing be off if It was set properly when the timing belt was installed?

I actually found out that I can just check the gnd timing box in dsmlink to check timing. Now I just need a timing light :)

Yes, with DSMLink it's relatively easy to check timing. Without it, it's just as easy since there is a timing ground connector (that most people don't know about) on the firewall next to the fuel pump test connector located behind the intake mani.

And yes, now all you need is a timing light.
