Hello all! I was wondering if you could help me with a problem my brothers 99 eclipse rs is having with shifting. Automatic Transmission.

About 2 weeks ago he had a really bad oil leak in his engine bay which covered most of his engine bay with oil. He caught it late and fixed it

Right after that, his car will not shift correctly. It takes revving to like 3-4k rpm for it to even move. It was shifting quite fine before the spill. Now, if you put it in drive, it will not move by itself. By pressing the gas and revving until 3-4k rpm we hear a loud clunk, it shifts and then the car moves. Even then though it feels as though it has no power.

Any ideas on what may have happened? I believe a sensor related to the transmission may have gotten damaged due to the oil spill. Thats just a guess though.

Any help is appreciated ^^

Might be a stupid question but did you add new transmission oil? ATF+3 is what the dealership says but since its not available any more ATF+4 is what you will have to use. That would be the only thing I can think of that would cause it not to function properly.
