It's a good thing to check for sure, it sounds like your clutch isn't disengaging properly. Have somebody push the clutch for you when you're under the car looking at the movement of the fork, also, check the fluid in your transmission, it sounds like it may be low as well. I had a problem with the shifter linkage in my 2G N/T as well. You have a few things that you should check out, but it would be best to have somebody sitting in the car while they're shifting to see if the cables are staying straight, sometimes the housing that the cable runs through gets bad and it will actually bend when going into 2nd or 4th because that movement is actually a "push" action for the cable.

if it only happens when shifting into 2nd then id think your transmission is out. i had the same thing happen to me , 2nd gear gave out and the next thing it did was break out the side of the transmission.

i am having the same problem. i am going to check the linkages tonight. if you figure anything out please post it up so that i will know!

Thanks in advance

Your brake light being on is most likely your brake fluid being low. That light is used for two indicators: the parking brake being engaged or the brake fluid level being low.
