99 eclipse 5 speed jumps out of 5th gear

I am new to the dsm I bought a 99 eclipse 2.0 5 speed water pump was leaking and it jumps out of 5th gear I am changing timing belt water pump and all that now I read a bunch of post stating that a loose nut could cause it to jump out of 5th gear I pulled the end cover and their is no nut just snap rings and bearings so where do I go from here?

Your profile says gsx but your pics show a 420a car. Which one is it? Hard to help if we dont know what you have.

well the pictures are of the car im not sure what it is im new to eclipse I would imagine it is a 420a if you say it is it says noting on the car everything has been removed I just got the car 6 days ago trust me you now more about it than I do

420a isn’t a trim level, but instead an engine code.

The GSX and GS-T trim levels came with a Mitsubishi 4G63t 2.0 liter turbocharged engine.

The RS and GS coupes came with a Chrysler 420a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated engine.

Judging from your DSM profile, I’m going with either an RS or GS coupe as MSD ignition coils are not very common on the 4G63t... and you have headers.

ok now that the trim debate is out of the way any suggestions on the tranny issue
1999 eclipse rs 5 speed keeps jumping out of 5th gear I removed the end cover and their is no 32mm nuts their it is two snap rings and bearings any idea what is causing this and what do I need to do to fix it.

No worries, now that we have that squared away, it’ll be a lot easier for other members to help you out.

Unfortunately, I’m fairly useless when it comes to the 420a engine and drivetrain as I have exactly zero experience with it. I will, however, say that it’s worth a look at the shifter base bushings and cable end bushings. Worn bushings on the 4G63 and 4G64 5 speeds can cause all sorts of shifting issues. May not have anything to do with your particular problem, but it’s an easy thing to check just to be certain.

Thank you for the welcome and i will take your advice and check those i should add that thier is not other shifting issues but the shifter does move alot when letting off and on the gas could a broken motor mount couse it to jimp out of 5th like that the whole motor rocking

Given your statements about shifter movement and end nuts im guessing you did some internet research. The stuff you found applies to 4g63 cars not yours sorry.

Broken motor mount can definitely cause that.
