98 GS-T maintenance high miles

Hi guys, I'm thinking of picking up a 98 GS-T. My only concern is that there is 187000 on the odometer. He claims the last owner did a full rebuild and the motor only has 15000 on it. Is there any way to tell if this rebuild actually happened? And if there isn't, is there anything that I should do with the car having this many miles on it? Please no hate. Thanks everyone

You could do a compression test to find out what condition it's in, if it's fine I would do the timing belt and all the components, water pump, any seals that are leaking, and normal car maintenance like filters and fluids

Make sure the oil is clean, check for any sounds coming out the engine, check compression, take it for a leak test (only takes like 25 minutes) Check the Cv joints and boots. Watch the engines temperature as you test drive it
check for any oil leaks, have him rev it while you check the exhaust. For smoke. Take it on the free way and check how it drives in fifth. Check Turbo for leaks and bring me a Burger while your test driving it

Just my 2 cents...the motor may only have 15,000, but with 187,000 miles worth of wear, make sure the ancillary components (suspension, exhaust, etc...) are in good working order as well (the parts individually may be cheap, but it adds up quick) After that fact, just do a basic tune-up and you should be good to go.

IMO, if its a nice car and most of the systems check out, including the engine/transmission, I would say get it and start twisting wrenchs
